New Driver

Hello all!

I have only just passed my car test. Would this hold me back in terms of doing my C and C+E licenses?

I am fully aware that it’s going to be tough already to find a company who would take on a new driver and I was just wondering if the lack of experience in a car would be a major problem of if they solely look at the category required for the job?

Cheers.

First of all, are you over 18?

Second question, are you over 21?
Third question, are you over 25?

First answer: yes!
Second answer: yes!
Third answer: afraid not!

You could pass car test just before age 18 then just after age 18 you can pass C then CE tests

Many years ago you could have gone from nowt to artic in one double L test at age 21

I got my first proper job at 24 after 6 months of broken 7.5t experience.

Thanks for the replies gents.

Theoretically speaking if I passed my C and C+E within a few months how much would my lack of car experience affect my chances of getting agency work?

Thanks Rog. If only I wasn’t born in the time when people listened to East 17 and Rolf Harris!!

Past my car test in October 2012, passed my C in August 2014.

Probably none at all as long as you’re prepared to work your way up the chain.
Yes you might be able to get straight into an Artic, but your chances will undoubtedly be better if you have shown you’re capable and competent in smaller stuff to start. Besides, the pay difference between puddle jumpers (7.5t) and Artic work isn’t much, and sometimes the same. As it is where I normally limp, I mean work agency!

It was always the plan to start as a knob that can’t drive a 7.5t and work my way up to being a knob that can’t drive an artic [emoji14]

The only reason I mentioned doing both was because I’ve just had a son so I anticipate that this is one of the last times I’ll ever have a positive bank balance for the next 18 years at least!

Got my first job on an artic at 21 and 10 months so it can be done and it was being a box jockey. So dont beleve all the bs about you need to be 25 for insurance.

Thanks Colin. I’m hoping that if I show enough willingness and not give up someone will let me get a foot in the door.

I don’t disagree that it can be done, but would suggest it’s a little harder, that’s all…
I’d also say that it’s a good idea to pass your C+E sooner rather than later, as later down the line you could possibly bend the truth a little regarding your experience!
