Hi All,
Passed my class 2 on 13th Oct and just waiting for the cards to come through. Does anyone have any tips/ideas for employment directions in the Southampton/Portsmouth areas■■? also when I did my training with Bypass we didn’t cover Tacho’s and Time regs etc do you get the info as you work and from employers etc or do you need to be clued up 1st ■■? I get the impression that its a minefield trying to get your head around but maybe I am worrying too much.
Any Info would be great
Thanks
Take a walk up the estate where by pass is and pop in to AFS or even the agency that’s in the same yard

Your employers will want you to know the drivers & wtd regs…Believe me…Most if not all traffic office staff have 'nt a clue…And to be honest…That is something you should be getting to grips with.No doubt when you go for an assesment/interview…Your more than likely going to get a test on them…

You’re not going to like this
but Palmer and Harvey (P&H) in Fareham will take on Newbies!
As for a zero bullcrap agency, try Rapier in Southampton. Speak to Matt or Rob who are both nice guys…
Both Blue Estate and myself are in your area, so give us a shout if there is anything you think we might be able to help with.
I’m a nice guy but Blue Estate is an arse!

As for Tacho rules, you need to educate yourself with google mate (and this forum) as agencies will expect you to do tests. But if you go in and see Matt at Rapier, and are honest with him, I’m sure he’ll try to help you and you might be able to do a practice run on theirs.
However, do not expect him to send you to clients if he doesn’t think you’re up to scratch, he won’t!!!
But I suspect he’ll give you some advice, and you’ll then have a good idea on what you need to know, so you don’t then look a plum if you go to other agencies and do their tests!

From your point of view, maybe!
And back to the OP, before we derail this thread…
I suspect a trainer will be along to say that you can take a CPC tacho module, and a drivers hours module to count towards your next 5 years CPC.
BYPASS run these…

No you’re not worrying too much pal, just trying to be prepared.
However you need to show initiative and LEARN, be that via taught education or self education is down to you…
Yes it initially appears complicated and daunting, but it gets easier with time and experience!
Depends what type of work you are looking for, and where you live, Gosport is a bugger to get in and out of, so wouldn’t recommend traveling too far, work around Fareham/Segensworth. Elsewhere, Southampton/Eastleigh have large industrial estates. Try the pallet networks (Lambert brothers/Harris Transport etc). Southampton/Eastleigh/Segensworth will have more of what your looking for than Portsmouth, but if your willing to learn and hunt, builders merchants are always looking for Hiab drivers. Waste companies are normally looking, Biffa/Veolia/L&S waste etc.
I by no way recommend these companies, or know of any vacancies, but know they have reasonably sized fleets and may be more willing to try a noob than smaller companies are. Google, look around, try agencies (although be careful - some will take the ****)
Good luck in your search, hope you find something soon!
