New driver starting out

I done my reversing test no problem. A quick question how close are you expected to get to a loading bay door?

In the real world you will need to back onto bays, as in touching or near enough touching the loading bay.

Don’t worry it’s not as hard as it may sound, practice makes perfect

Just stop short open doors and reverse back untill you hit the big rubber stops on the wall.
If there not there as close as you can within couple of inches or so.
As most loading bays have inbuilt ramps that extended out into your truck

Approach VERY slowly, just a light touch on the bump stops (you WILL feel it),job done.
And remember, you’re not gods gift to lorry driving, go steady at the job AND DON’T BE AFRAID OF ASKING ABOUT ANYTHING. You’ll have a few ‘incidents’…but we all did when we were starting. Good luck.

Just remember open your back doors 1st. Nothing worse than reversing in going to office then be told your doors aren’t open and taking the walk of shame back to move again.

And when on a loading bay check there rules some won’t let you sit in your cab have to use there waiting area/canteen .some places your trucks fine as long as in passenger seat.
Some you drive in a gulley kind of. Thing and it locks your wheels in place. Others make you remove airlines etc.
What ever they do it’s there rules just put up with it.
And look out for the low down yellow barriers your supposed to squeeze between

And never lock your cab door because there take your keys from you and won’t be able to get in your cab then

Once you’ve successfully coupled to the bay without cracking the surrounding masonry it’s always a good idea to have a walk to the back of the trailer to check the height of the ramp versus your load deck. Ramps are adjustable but forkies tend to frown upon negotiating a ramp that resembles the north face of the Eiger.

It’s easily adjustable with your trailer air suspension and it’s far easier to do before your keys are confiscated and your dignity stripped away in the generic waiting cell.

Kiss the bays, Kiss that bay with your trailers rubber-buffers. Not too hard, you might have to adjust the suspension at the back end and if you are hard up against the bay ‘lip’ it might catch when you adjust the back end.

Use the markers on the bay flaps (if they have them) to aid getting on straight. Far easier than looking at the bananas.
