Howdy im a new driver and hopefully starting a new job next week. it works from sunday to sunday with two overnights per week and 2 on one off. 5 day week. keeping under the 90 hours per 2 weeks. sound ok? Im based here in Ireland. it will be fridge work. which I know nothing about. especially the control panels. is their anything online or here on the forum that I can familiarize myself with?
Also all I know about the truck is its a volvo 2011 with I-shift gearbox. again being used to manual is their a steep learning curve with this box? as I understand it. D is auto and M is manual using the button to shift gears…is that all I kneed to know?
also I have never used a digital tacho before and not sure which one they will have in the cab. maybe someone here drives a 2011 volvo and can point my in the right direction,.
appreciate any help lads as a new driver can be quite daunting.
thanks
The hours are ok as long as you keep with in the 90 per fortnight but remember your maximum in one week is 56 hours driving not 45 as lot seem to think it is most fridge work runs at +2 which is chilled ice cream is - 35 as cold as it gets just have a word with the transport manager as all the fridges i have had do both way they will freeze chill and cook your digital taco will be set automatically all you do is put your card in and it will give your name press ok then it will give your country start then press ok and away you go as for your I shift box once you get in to top gear put it in M this stops it changing up and down on small hills as changing up and down uses more fuel and it will show on your read out back at the depot hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply bigmiler. as far as im aware ill have to load the pallets before setting off. so will I insert the card and set it to other work and then load for maybe 30 mins. and then when i set off it will automatically go to driving?
Also i have to tip the load at a bay with a que of other trucks. when I pull up and waiting what will I set it to poa?
And also when I reach destination and have to sleep over do I just switch it to bed/rest and turn it off for the night resuming again in the morning?
sorry for all the question have never used one before.
thanks
with the i shift stick it in a and forget about it when on motorway use cc and set veb to automatic and enjoy the ride
