My current card expires on the 9th and the new one starts on the 10th but I work nights so do I have to do the changeover at midnight (I seem to remember reading that in here somewhere) or do I use the new one start of shift on the 9th and just use it for the entire shift??
Oh and my new card expires in 2020, is the new date for a medical even though I’m 45 a couple of years before that ■■

That expiry date is only for your tacho card. Your licence expiry date will be on your licence…

I’m 47 in 3 months and haven’t had a medical since age 40 (initial for cat c entitlement) thanks to the ‘change your photo loophole’. My next medical is due Feb '19 by which time I’ll be ■■■■ near 50.
Don’t worry about it, medicals are needed to renew your entitlement so you don’t need one until your licence says, regardless of age 45.

You mentioned your medical. That is nothing to do with your driver card (or DCPC card)

I believe you’re supposed to use your old card for the whole shift (unless you have to take it out of the tacho head for some reason e.g. changing vehicle). You’ll also have to carry it around with you for the next 28 days.

Cheers, I’ve just spoke to the DVLA and this was what they advised too
