Why do you wonder that?

It tells you on the advertisement what the wages are

Quite right it does tell you but that is not what they all earn I can assure you. The pay within the Civil Service has gone through vast changes over the years.
I can guarantee some examiners that have been there a while will be on far more. £25000 used to be the minimum about 15 years ago and the maximum if my memory sever me well was £37000. The pay scales have all changed these days.

As for the job you really have to have nerves of steel and switch your brain off. Boring boring boring and I only did it very briefly. The training is fairly tough though. The hardest bit is how much you have to lower your standards which some drivers may find very easy!

Where, all I can see is that it’s for cars, nothing mentioned about hgv/pcv…!?

think you’ll find the only requirement is you hold a full licence. the only addition is cat A for motor cycles.
the guy that tested me years ago only had a bike licence … Mr Fox at Gloucester.

Strange, thought you had to have the relevant category for the vehicle you’re testing in!?

thing is your not instructing as in teaching your testing … mind I could be wrong as things change.
the web site doesn’t say you have to hold a full licence for each category it just says

Introduction

Driving examiners are employed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), which is an executive agency of the Department for Transport.

To become a driving examiner you need to:
•have had a UK or EU licence continuously for the last 4 years
•have no more than 3 penalty points on your licence
•be 24 or over

You’ll need to have a full category A licence if you’re applying for a vacancy where fast-track motorcycle examiners are needed.

Any endorsements will be taken into account on a case by case basis.

You don’t need to have been a driving instructor to become a driving examiner

that’s the only one that stipulates a category

The job will be for testing car and motorcycle only. Unless things have changed recently you have to have so much experience doing that before going on to LGV/PCV and obviously you require these licenses. These are the rules in civvy st.
MOD a little bit different. I have tested on car, LGV, PCV, but not motorcycle.
They do like people that have not been instructors for exactly the reason I mentioned earlier. Low standards are required.
Tests far too easy. :unamused:

Thank you, somebody finally talking sense, there’s no way hgv/pcv examiners are on £25k a year…!
