New and saying hello

Just a quick introduction from me.

I’m Neil, looking at starting in the industry after years at sea. Ultimately want to do European tramping as I still like the idea of traveling whilst I work.

I’ve been searching for a training provider but I’m very fussy and most I’ve found using google have some form of bad review. But after reading loads on here I think I’ve found just the training establishment I need. So I’ve sent a PM to Peter Smythe. He gets good reviews and people on her seem to talk highly of him and his centre looks good.

I’m looking forward to my journey to become a professional driver.

Hope all goes to plan. Welcome aboard and keep us up to speed with things and if you need help or advice just ask away

So I’ve sent a PM to Peter Smythe.

Thankyou. I have replied.

Pete

You will be very lucky to find continental work on class two, you will 99% certainly need class one for that game.

All the best with it! I would only consider tramping myself if one of my kids moved back home. If that were to happen, then all bets are off. Till that day, it’s shorter hours and home every day for me! I like my home comforts

Hi Neil, you´re in the same boat as me, mate. I.e. not an hgv driver yet
I just hang around here to annoy people really. I seem to be doing a good job too.

Some people keep a diary of their journey to being a lorry driver, why don´t you do the same? It would bring back memories for you in the future and, at the same time, help the rest of us noobs along the way

ANyways, look who replied first…couple of bus drivers  They´re trained to communicate with clients so it´s to be expected
Sorry fellas, couldn´t resist :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Neil, thanks for the post.
I think you’re doing the right thing going to Peter Smythe, they seem to get great reviews from guys on here and elsewhere, I am intending to go to their open day on the 6th October.
There’s only a couple of things I am concerned about it opoortunities for new drivers on passing, as virtually every job I see require at least 6 months experience often more. The other thing is the honesty from guys on here who seem really unhappy with things in the industry, but I am guessing you would find that in any profession. I remember when I joined the Police in 1990 I spoke to two officers on one of the these roadshow things, both said ‘the job’s [zb]ed’ but I still joined…turned out they were right  Although I did stick at it for 15 years.
Anyway good luck and you will be in good hands training.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the big delay in replying, I’ve been having trouble posting since my first hello post.

I had a chat with Peter the other day and have decided, after our chat, that I was going to go with him for all my training. So just got to get it booked up and get my provisional.

I’m going to try to remember to do a diary of my training journey so to hopefully help other newbies in their quest for the answer to the question “How do I get my licence”

I’ll keep you all posted how things are progressing.
