New and need help. PCV Auto to LGV2

Hello to all. I am new to this forum so if I’m doing anything wrong please forgive me.

I need help on becoming a LGV2 driver (just info)

I have a pcv auto would I need to do a medical and theory test to gain a LGV2.

Once I pass I would like to be self employed and probebly buy my own truck. How would I get work and from who I leave in London.

I’m not a big fan of artics and want to just drive large rigid’s. But I want to drive then long distance. Is there work for rigid’s in long distance. I don’t either see any rigid truck hauling shipping containers. Is this a possibility. How do shipping container work workout good/bad money.

Thanks to all for any advise given.

First things first. Welcome to the mad house

Do you have LGV provisional?

Did you tick all the category boxes when you applied for the PCV provisional.

If not then you have to go through the medical again (unless its been very recent).

The theory tests are relevant to each category so yes you would have to take theory tests.

As to becoming an Owner Driver… With respect, that is a big step to take and not to be taken lightly.

You need to source the work before paying out the money for the truck.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen any rigids with containers on.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Im sorry you want to buy a vehicle you dont know if you have a provisinal for.you do not know of any work available so im guessing you dont know what owning a truck entails before turning a wheel.this isnt like buying a expensive car on hp and deciding you will taxi in it or deliver pizzas to help pay for it.do yourself a favour stick to service work.at least research your plan properly

Step 1 - Cat C provisional license, as others have said you will need another medical if you don’t already have provisional cat C on your license.
Step 2 - theory test. very similar to PCV theory test if you ever did that.
Step 3 - hazard perception test, identical test to when doing PCV hpt test but need to do again, nice little money spinner for them that one.
Step 4 - approach training provider, pass practical test.

When did you get your car license, if it does not already have category C1 on it then you need to do case studies and initial CPC too.

Owning a truck is a massive undertaking, requiring operator license and operator CPC, or finding an operator willing to add your vehicle. I like your enthusiasm, but with respect - work for someone else and learn the industry first. It will help you decide which vehicle to buy too if you still want to eventually.

Best of luck
