I bought a personal breathalyser a while ago because I like a couple when I park up and it’s purely for the morning after check. Halfords, cost £39.99 and reads different - ) Uk at time of buying is 0.8 is over the limit, 0.6 ok cautious roadside and police intoximeter may record over. I have only ever driven with a 0.4 reading which is practically zero that is after 3 cans of Stella last one at 20:00 ish and starting at 06:00 (first at 17:45)
Its the morning after where they catch you
A lad in warehouse in yard i park last year went out fri night
Taxi home by midnight he had 6 pints no shots i was there
Got stopped 8am sat on way to work was still over
Got 12 month ban reduced by 3 months for doing course
Then you got the idiot on that police programme the other year
Mrs i think it was driver pulled on m42 3/4pm in afternoon
Special brew open in cab tried to say was from night before
And found tobe 2/3 times over limit
Deserves never to drive a truck again
But some one have a few pints on a evening or wine with a meal good nights sleep
Feel fine next day can still be over and is bad luck
We could all go out now drink 6 pints blow in bag we all blow different
Then sleep for 8 hrs blow again some be ok some still be over
Stupid nanny state in Scotland. As all professional drivers know, if you do happen to have a few too many all you have to do is drive slowly and stay near the kerb.

6 pints equates to 12-18 “units” of alcohol, depending on the strength of the beer. The human body (or, more specifically, the liver) can break down about one “unit” per hour - so it will take roughly 8-14 hours to get down to the (England & Wales) drink-drive limit, plus another 4 hours or so before it has all gone.
most of europe is 0 tolerance now. got my lesson the hard way - went to ukraine, had two beers in the cafe before going to bed, slept for 11 hours (knew I wasn’t going to be clearing the customs in kyiv anyway as they don’t really work on a friday). the next morning, drove for an hour and a half, got pulled over. the cops asked me if I had been drinking, I said I haven’t, they said they got a call so I had to blow into a glass tube, which showed something (later on I was told by a friend that it’s bs). cost me like €100 but learned a valuable lesson - no drinking at all if you have to drive the next day. you might not be over but you have nothing to be afraid of if you haven’t had a single pint
Pointless post but I’m drinking now and have been since 18:00 (not driving )will post in the morning when I blow clear on breathalyser and have added up units etc. May be interesting for some.
4 cans Oranjeboom (8.5% and 1 can of polish 7.5%) last can will be 23:30 ish. Have eaten a decent portion of chinese around 21:30
Friday night and I’m OFF

I make that around 18-20 “units” (depending on the size of the cans - 440ml or 500ml). I’d expect you to be back down to the legal limit around 8am as you started drinking fairly early in the evening and your liver would have got to work on the first drink pretty much straight away. I’d guess your system should be pretty much clear of alcohol by lunchtime.

A fascinating insight into your life.
Oranjeboom, oh dear. Each to their own, I suppose.

Blimey, it seems that a person can’t even choose what beer to drink without Contraflow having a sneer.
I would never make light of the drink driving laws, but as said to me by a copper a few years ago, and I quote “ statistics say that 33% of deaths on the road are caused by people who have been drinking, a very frightening figure but what frightens me more is the other 60 odd percent of people killed by drivers who are perfectly sober, now that is worrying” makes you think.

My logic is - having a drink at home with the wife in the comfort of our home getting quite tipsy and having a laugh and not getting up 3-4 times a night nipping to the toilet. 4 cans of Oranjeboom is about the same as 8 cans Stella - probably 5 or 6 pints in a pub. Canned Stella is not the same strength as pub Stella I like the little extra buzz Oranjeboom gives me
I think that’s reasonable to be honest! No walking, no driving and we are enjoying ourselves. we’ve both worked all week and deserve it. We are both going out tomorrow night with friends where we shall mingle with other folk who are like minded and we’ll have just as much fun in a public bar…although the downside is because I drive for a living…I’m the nominated driver
happens most times.
Odd days:
In no way do I condone drink driving, but the news said 20 deaths a year due to drink driving. I wonder how many deaths a year to drugs and violence and do you see the police targetting drug takers mob handed. Ie ring fence a club or pub and test every body for illegal substances then prosecute them. The synical side of me says there is money in moterists.
I think you should watch some of the police documentaries they are knocking doors in on a regular basis also pickup lots of dealers in cars. Here in Dumfriesshire the Lockerbie road policeing unit has one of the highest drug detection rates in the UK most of it caught on the M74. Eddie.
Hmmm most professional drivers I know can drive whilst totally ■■■■■■ and still make your average car driver look bad. This drinking and driving wrecks lives is a total myth and we are all suckered into believing it. Very few people die as a result of a drunk driver.
Wasn’t there a comedian who recently put it all into perspective? cant remember who or the story but it summed it all up for me.
Go on, start waffling on that I wouldn’t say that if it was my wife or kids.

Can’t name the comedian or how it was summed up and then bring your wife and kids into the equation
are you ■■■■■■■ and more to the point…are you driving
guy i knew who was/is a heavy drinker used to swear by putting an old copper 2 p piece below his tongue before he was breathalysed . this apparently was a surefire way to fool the breathalyser/ he would know too, being half mashed a lot of the time . he drove an excavator on a rubbish tip and got stopped now and then driving to work in the wee hours /
It still amazes me that some people think “Im ok to drive,Ive only had one pint. Im under the limit”. The fact is,alcohol affects everyone differently depending on your metabolism. Some people can have a pint and it wont affect thm. Others (like me) cant handle alcohol and half a pint will affect how they function.
This is the problem with having any sort of “limit”. It makes everyone think it is a set number of pints or shots or whatever.
I get why it can’t be absolutely zero given the fact alcohol can be found in mouthwash etc but why anyone would think it is ok to have any kind of alcoholic drink and then get behind the wheel is a mystery to me. Even 1 glass of wine is too much in my humble opinion.
And for those of you saying the police are just out to bump up their targets, here’s a fun fact for you. They caught dozens of drivers over the limit. They didn’t say one day “oh ,by the way,the alcohol limit is now lower and your over it”. It was WELL advertised and yet some people STILL though it was ok to have whatever they had and then drive. Any police crackdown on drink and drug driving offences should have the full support of all sane minded drivers. I used to work on the doors of Glasgow and coming home at 4am I was randomly stopped about 3-4 times a month by police. Never once was I annoyed or P’d off. It took 20 seconds for them to acertain the situation and I was back on my way. For every X number stopped, they will catch Y number over the limit and get them off the road. That can only be a good thing.

Next year when the speed limit changes in England for hgvs you week technically be allowed to drive down the A6 at 50 mph after having a pint.
In nanny state Scotland however, the Schutzstaffel, sorry I mean police Scotland will have you executed at dawn.
11 and half hours after my last drink I’ve just blown under the limit. 5 strong cans over 6ish hours last night taking nearly 12 hours to be under. If I’d been working I would have been over when starting at 06:00 before anyone gets stuck in I wouldn’t drink that many nor that late when working.
