Hi
i passed my class c last month and have been offered a job driving for B.T (with an agency) does any one know what sort of routes and drops B.T have?? also because this is the first time driving since i passed, i have got my self in abit of a tangle! How do i use a digi card etc the usual newbie nerves, can any one give me a bit of advice? or inside info on what the job is like, thanks alot. Ryan.
BT as in… British telecom? What will you be doing for them? I’m confused
Either way, digital tachos are a doddle to do the basic things. Put the card in (shows you on the back of the card which way to insert), give it a minute to sort itself out, it’ll show you the last time you used your card (if you did) and asked if that’s ok, to which you press ok. Will then ask if you’d like to add a manual entry (which you wont) so press no (should already be set to no). Wait for the little picture of the card on the bottom left to change from half to full then off you go!
That’s on a siemens one btw, there’s a couple of others but I’ve not used them. Besides, any transport manager should sort you out if you say you’ve not used one before… There’s drivers who’ve been driving for years and still not used one.
Where is the bt depot? If it magna park, they use moffetts alot but I’m not sure what they move. Always seem busy tho…

(ive just spent half an hour typing a reply to chris and i have lost the lot!!!■■? )
hi
yeh its in magna park rugby, i was meant to start today with half an hour notice then got called back saying there was a few more Pallets need to go on the load, so there were going to use an arctic to do it so im to start tomorro!so i reckon its moving pallets was told because i have no experience it would be a nice easy run (Trunk) ! he also said he would ring me back at 12. and give me more details on the job, i have rang twice since 12 and was told he is busy and will ring ME back so i have minimal knowledge of what il be doing and cannot ring him back to get info because il Pi** them off, and also i am extremely lucky with the pay they are offering for no experience ,so really want to stay in their good books.

They have a massive fleet of trucks and vans. My mate in the village who works for them was put through his class one several years ago by them to collect full cable drums from Kent, another drives one like this although not sure if they need tachos when they are putting poles up.

thanks for that pic, looks like a little beauty although im not sure i would feel comfortable hauling poles round like that for my first job!
i was told the work is ongoing for as long as i want! and if they offer to pay for my C+E aswell that would be mint! i just want to get experienced in the C class trucks first though do you have any idea of the drops your mate had?
That looks like a 12 tonner type thing so if it’s one of those it’ll be a doddle mate, basically like a 7.5 tonner. Drove a few merc and Iveco pretty recently and they’re a piece of cake mate.
If not then I’m sure you’ll still be fine, just take your time getting used to it!

The BT truck was stolen from the “welsh tipper thread”
Here are another one or two.
How do i use a digi card
Remember that trucks pre-2006 don’t normally have digitachs. So these will need you to complete the analogue tacho chart.
Really pleased you’ve got a start. Good luck

hi
all i was told is make sure i take my digi card because i will need it . like my mate has just said ,if you cant use your tacho … your not going driving, lol true though .i will have to deal with that when i get there, even if i have to ask another driver for help to be honest the agency should have given me all this information all ready! but every one knows how agencys can be.
We had a new driver in on mon who had not used his digi card before so he asked then I climbed in cab with him to show him it was easy at the end of day showed him how to remove this driver although C+E had never driven 1 and never reversed ( x army )
did advise him that there are plenty of shunters around that will help if you ask them
If there is another driver there ask them to show you say you have never /only used once so not sure how to use I have used 2 different types
Just take your time as remember it not a Russian box & enjoy ask if in doubt
Most the ones at Magna Park LUTTERWORTH are artics with double deckers, dragging a moffett behind them, so im thinking its truncking to vairous little outposts rather than rdcs etc as why take the moffett. You often see little BT buildings in villages etc, theres one in Broughton Astley where i live. Not saying thats what it is but?! Must be reels tbh…

what is reels? i spoke to the agency again and he said i could do pretty much what i want, nights/ days , trunks, multi drop, or tramping! he did also say that he does not need me to start tomorro so i said when will i be starting?? he said when he gets the call with times and dates
he will let me know! and not to worry as there is another new driver starting with me!, he did seem like a really genuine guy and reassured me that he would get me working within the next few days @ B.T @ magna park, so basically have spent all day sh****ng it for no reason
i just hope this isnt to good to be true!

You’ve got your start mate. Just remember, take your time, if your not sure or worried about anything, just ASK.
All the best.
