I’ve been working on the ssi site at redcar on tippers moving coke an coal from the coke ovens to the blast furnace an back , now as your probably aware its now closed which is bad enough but the way hargreaves industrial services have treated us is beyond belief,as it becomes obvious things are going wrong hargreaves immediately put us on a 45 day consultation period which is fair enough but this is the thing they paid us five days pay at £25 per day an that’s it to last us the 45 days this is the minimum the government says a firm has to pay in consultation but every other contractor on site and even ssi paid there workers full money for this period an there the ones in liquidation ! Hargreaves are still a thriving business there are without doubt the worst firm I’ve ever worked for shame on you hargreaves ! On the up side I may have a start for bulkhaul does anyone know what there like to work for in future I’m ganna be very choosy who I work for
after working for that shower of ■■■■■ hargreaves , cheers
fellas
I had my truck showered with grit on the road out of Immingham docks because he couldn’t be bothered to cover his load. Always charging around the place.

But you don’t work for SSI, so you can’t even realistically compare.
Take the £25/day, but instead of sitting at home doing nothing & feeling sorry for yourself, jump in your car and sign up with either another firm, or any of the agencies in the area to get a wage. That way you’ll have both the wage +£25
Hargreaves are a thriving concern for a reason, they don`t do charity
How did they treat you before this sorry mess reared its ugly head ?
Bulkhaul will want their pound of flesh, and, from what I can see, they don`t do charity either, unless its the “boro”
One door shuts, another one opens, chin up and go for it …
Sorry lads I think your getting me wrong I’m neither feeling sorry for myself or looking for charity ! I’ve worked all my life an always provided for myself and my family what you might not understand is the constitution period is 45 days of which I am still employed by hargreaves so I can’t work for anyone else without leaving hargreaves an losing my redundancy money , I was merely stating what a greedy lot hargreaves are an if anyone has worked for backhaul , I’m not looking for sympathy just a bit of advice, an Pierre where do ya think the backhaul offer came from no one came an knocked on my door while I was Sat at home feeling sorry for myself an offered me it I have been out an about looking but until Monday just gone there was still hope the coke oven would stay open in which case we still had a job but for the 17 days leading up to then we’ve had £125 so what do ya do leave a possible job and your redundancy money or wait to find out what s happening, because I’ve been on site working for years I needed to do my cpc anyway
Hargreaves, were they called hell drivers previously, thats what they sound like

You need to seek professional advice,I’m sure they can’t expect you to stand for 45 days on £25 a day to get your redundancy, the £25 a day for 45 days will cost them £1100 anyway the your redundancy so I’m sure they would let you go early with your redundancy as it will save them the above figure.
It’s £125 for the 45 days mate not £25 a day for 45 days , the union are trying to fight it for us , I’m phoning them today to see what my position is if I put in for voluntary redundancy there plenty of work for drivers and I got my cpc card back yesterday so I’m ready to crack on an put this behind me I’m not new to redundancy this is the 3rd time but other companies have been sound when I was made redundant from bulmers they made sure we got all we were owed , I was just trying to let lads know in my opinion hargreaves are not a firm to work for
How long have you worked for them?
whats the situation if you sign up for an agency during this period ? obviously when it comes to tax you are going to be hammered because already employed so this will count towards tax banding, but this will be adjusted and rectified at the end of the tax year and rebated accordingly…

When I got made redundant I was told if I took a new job in the consultation period I would lose my redundancy pay.
This sounds like they are classing the 45 days as ‘lay off’ and paying the minimum guaranteed payment. You probably had a lay off clause in your employment contract. This is supposed to be for when work is short but they don’t want to lose you as an employee and can foresee work will pick up again. Basically short time.
Unfortunately I have had to do this with warehouse staff in a previous job. It wasn’t particularly nice or easy and although I realise they were more hard done by than I was (no money and families to feed) - the stress of managing a situation like that almost killed me and forced a career change away from management.
They are basically saying they are making you redundant - here’s your notice period but we have no work for that period.
Basically they are scamming you. Seek help. Start with ACAS. Lay off is not really intended for this situation.

And this quote just goes to show why drivers get shafted all the time and the transport industry is full of ■■■■■■■
Good luck in getting a new job, never trust anyone in this industry they are all lying charlatans … retrain
I wold have thought that coming on here and slating them while still employed by them, is not the most sensible idea.
Just saying like.
Ken.
anybody thought about hargreaves getting shafted by SSI when they went into liquidation
hargreaves themselves will be owed thousands and probably never get it, if they decide to go bust the chain continues
Shep532 that is exactly the way it is , as I’ve said before I was expressing an opinion of a company that has treated its workforce unfairly in my eyes the whole situation is a mess , to much to be debated here , chainsaw I’m glad you picked up on an unfair comment I’ve been looking an found a couple of options but was leaning towards bulkhaul an thought I would ask see if anyone had had any experience of them before I took it further I’ve been made redundant twice before an always just cracked on , i drive trucks I enjoy driving trucks I don’t want to retrain there’s jobs , I’m not new to this I’ve had my class1 since 1991 and have worked for some great companies usually small family businesses granted .I won’t be letting this firm put me off my choice of work
