I knew about not putting water on that stuff but never seen the clip before, wouldn’t say it’s history. Good bit of information as far as I could see!

Similar happens on a Bitumen Tank if you leave them open over Night so it rains in and load at Morning Hot Bitumen. Water just explodes and all coming back out of Top-middn in your face if you stay there.

The Coefficient of cubical expansion is to be used as follows: V2 (V1 + K x T)

V2 = volume of tank is m3 which can be safely loaded.
bitumen cargo, keep in mind that at the temperatures of normal bitumen grades, 150-180 Centigrade,
1 liter of water will be expanded as much as 1000 liters in volume, which will create a high risk for cargo tanks venting/exhaust, as long as the P/V valves setting have been designed for liquid cargoes, not for gas. Special care has to be taken to avoid any water content into the cargo tanks before commencement of bitumen loading.
