think I should update this.
Finished with the tipper company in November,Had enough of going flat out everywhere chasing my tail to make someone else money, having my 15 break whilst nudging foreword in the cue for the weighbridge, and sleeping in [zb] laybys in a truck that kept breaking down whilst I was on £80 a day! but I got some valuable experience and a EPIC / MPQC out of it! been driving for a new relatively large chilled haulage company until I got picked to go in the office as a supervisor.
I must say a massive thank you to the helpful support, and my previous boss for giving me a shot.
got my Mod 4 done a month or so ago after reading an article in a truck mag about the cut off date for acquired rights on the cpc, thankfully I got away with it. though I had passed 3 driver agency screenings and got work out of all of them! they didn’t notice.
Im off to better places again next week, driving a curtainsider rigid and a small trailer. cant wait to get back driving.
I was gonna say that I can’t believe someone would be stupid enough to drive without having their DCPC qualification, but your ex Army and most of them can’t tie their laces without someone telling them how to do it.
haven’t we got till September 14 to get the DCPC? (for licence obtained in 1979) I haven’t done mine yet, but got it booked.
I was told of a guy who took a test in a class 2 vehicle with a draw-bar attachment, and achieved his C+E licence, He went for a interview as a Class 1 driver, the manager conducted the interview and told him that pending a driving assessment, the job was his.
The driving assessor took a proper look at his licence and saw a code next to his C+E entitlement (something like 101 or 102) which ment he was only entitled to drive a Class 2 with a draw bar, not a unit and trailer artic.
Sorry if I’ve mis-read your post and am talking mince

I wont be in any bars until my temporary commando dagger and pegasus’ wings tattoo’s have stuck
Im really just a fat REME A Mech
REME- Royal Engineers Made Easy?.. Am I right?
I thought it was Royal Engineers Minus Education.
RLC is the really large corps. Pioneers, or chunkies to give them their correct title, major league knuckle draggers or barrier technicians. I typed this slowly so it sinks in.
Hey New Lad, I’ve written this all myself & nobody told me to! How good is that.
As for me, 20 years a signaller. Proper job, none of these fish & chip units.
Dont be afraid to ask, nobody likes a smart arse who think he knows it all Dont be afraid to admit your inexperience, we all had to learn at some stage.
Don`t try and act the “big wheel man” your ego could be costly.
Good Luck
I got my c+e through my reservist unit, did the same as you, wagon n drag but didnt have to wait as long before I got to drive an artic, as everyone has said slow is smooth, smooth is fast, finally, when you consider where we have had to “basha up” in the past, sleeping outside in february on otterburn ranges, cow sheds, empty cold war munitions dumps etc, then a warm heated cab with a bed is luxury. Enjoy mate

That’s funny my dad’s ex army ( Foreman in 7 sigs) and he’s now chief engineer of comms for the department of transport for NEW South Wales…I think the he can tie his own laces…
Ahh 7 Sigs, the jungle & willies bar just outside the gates, the rugby matches. Have many dim memories of being in those places. Happy days, and nights.
It’s odd how non military people think soldiers cannot do anything without being told. Driving is the very essence of not being able to do the job without someone telling you what to do & when. It’s as if they turn up at the yard and decide themselves what they will take, where & when, without the office telling them.

My best tip is never employ anyone from the Army
Seriously, you’re in for a steep learning curve, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re not sure about anything and be honest about your lack of experience.
Good luck !
I did that worst one ever…clueless its like they miss the authority…
