i fully agree with u…the man lived for his people and fought for his people.the irish did the same years ago in 1916 so they could have back their country.many people also dead in that from both sides.people like Nelson Mandela dont do that because their bad ■■■■■■■■■■■■ do it for their rights and the love of their people.i grew up during the troubles in ireland here.yes for years i wanted to take a stand against what i belived was right and sometimes still do.yes i belive that our 6 counties belong to the irish and maybe someday will. i also know that for now the 6 counties and they people that live there are better off under english rule for now.i also know that people were killed in our war that should never have been killed.i’m sure most of yous english people know of at least 1 family that had a family member killed by the IRA.i have over the years learned that the people and country that i wanted to take a stand against is and are very good and lovely people,them like me grew up in this hatefull war.the english people have got caught up in many wars that they never wanted too…After the cease fire over here in 1994 i asked a leading IRA man how could the just gave up the war for their 6 counties…his answer has been in my head since.he said…" i hated the war but i never hated the people involved in the war"…so i say “we can hate the war,but we dont have to hate the soilders involved in the war”

Should the CIA let everyone out of Guantanamo Bay? Lets face it, first Malcolm X, now Mandela, it seems there’s a good track record of people who previously made their point through pain and fear have an epiphany on their release and go on to harmonise various factions and endeavour to move towards world peace.
Perhaps Al Qaeda will go on to achieve the same end with Islamic/Western relations as Mandela did with apartheid.
Rip, I’ve studied Mandela quite a bit over the years. he did a lot of good and a lot of bad. The good he did outweighs the bad massively but for those who aren’t aware of the bad things he did, He was in fact acquitted of treason after a 4-year trial, but re-arrested a few years later, and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for launching an armed insurrection.
He was then later charged with 193 counts of terrorism: for sabotage and for trying to smuggle, prepare, or manufacture (mostly Soviet-bloc) munitions, including: 210,000 hand-grenades, 48,000 anti-personnel mines, 144 tons of ammonium-
nitrate, 21.6 tons of aluminum powder, 1,500 timing devices,b and 2,000 lbs. of black gunpowder. Among his many alleged co-conspirators were 3 communists: Denis Goldberg, Arthur Goldreich, and Lionel Rusty Bernstein.
A truly remarkable man none the less who changed the world forever and for the better. RIP.

Harry, Have you ever been to Africa ? The place is a world away from where it was when Mandela was released, he has to take great credit for some of the changes. I agree that he had an involvement in a brutal armed struggle, but one could strongly argue that the end justified the means, as bitter as the pill is to swallow, as in the case of our good friends across the Irish sea. And while we’re having a history lesson, check out some of the atrocities carried out in the name of the British Empire and the Monarchs of the day !

The question is have you actually got a clue as to the situation in South Africa and Rhodesia.Both countries have predictably descended into the situation of reverse racism against the immigrant ethnic European communities which apartheid previously defended them against.There is no comparison between the situation in South Africa and Ireland.
In Ireland it’s just about two different factions of the same ethnicity with different views concerning the future of the country IE independent of the UK as opposed to remaining tied to it.
While South Africa is all about ethnicity in the form of it’s ethnic European immigrant African communities and it’s indigenous ethnic African ones.While you seem to be forgetting that the colonial history of South Africa’s past has more to do with the Dutch than the Brits.We just mainly ran the administrative side of things while the Dutch did all the work while the loacals as usual just wanted everything that the colonials brought with them and worked for.

There are loads of different examples of what the British army have done wrong throughout history including to their own ethnic communities.But that’s got nothing to do with the situation in the case of the average ethnic European African living under Mandela’s commy idea of how to run a country.
