Need some advise regarding poa's

Hi all
Need a little advice regarding p.o.a
I’ve held a hgv just over 3 year and I was on the understanding that p.o.a is for stopping you working time if you knowing how long you’ll have to wait , example asking the company that’s loading you , then poa on loading bay for the 1 HR that the loader just told you.
The problem is that I’ve got pulled in for not using p.o.a in a queue at the docks by the company I work for, they have told me that it’s historical rights due to nature of job that you can keep putting it on/off poa but I think I should as i don’t know how long I will be there so to me it’s otherwork , does anyone thing I should just continue keep doing what I’m doing and keep myself right.
This all because the transport office made a arse of it and didn’t pass right information regarding a delivery time or got someone else there to collect and deliver earlier
I will be greatfully for any advice

Stick it on break instead.

If you are in a queue then put it on rest. You are on rest. Read a paper, go on TruckNet, have a J Arthur Rank.

When you move forward then the tacho will default to driving then other work, then just put it back on rest again, rinse and repeat.

But it’s analogue not digital

…have a J Arthur Rank.

I wouldn’t recommend that; you’ll get Harry Monk all over the cab.

Enjoy your break even more!
Break!

It’s just I’m trying to keep myself right regarding rule & regulations
As they have the habit of trying to turn people into wee yes men that kiss some amount of arse
That ain’t me I just wanna do my shift & go

so put it on break, when you move it will record driving, when you stop it will go back to recording break

Just be careful VOSA don’t try and do you for creating a false record. Can poa actually extend your working day past 15hr duty time or not? I could’ve got to Scotch Corner last night with my driving time, but only had 10mins of duty time left, thus I spent the night in Harrogate.

O
Nothing can extend your max work time of 15 hrs. All poa does is kerp down working time relavent to the working time directive and your average over the reference period be that 17 or 26 weeks depending on which period your company is using to work things out over. The 15 hrs is tacho regulation and one bears no relavance to the other except tacho breaks can be counted as both wtd breaks as well and if you are double manning the first 45 mins of poa counts as break in vosa’s eyes. Confusing I know but there you go :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I was gonna answer NO to his question, but you’ve managed to clearly put in plain English the relevant facts.

Truck driving ain’t like factory work where, no matter what, when the bell rings you go home. You can be a bolshy as you like but when push comes to shove it’s still you who have to bring the truck home.

it would only be a false record if when you started doing some other work you didn’t set it to other work

Perhaps looking at what the rest requirements are will answer many queries

A certain amount of minimum rest is required in one go during a period of 24 hours

With that in mind then it becomes clear that nothing can extend the shift time

The requirement for break is less than that for POA so if something can be POA then it can also be break

A break of less than 15 mins cannot count as a break for any of the regs but is still time recorded as break

Other work for me,putting it on/off poa/break every 2 mins is going to look crap after a hour, fair enough if you were stationary for a hour, but moving every minute or two,no

Talk about the dark ages you would have thought that some ■■■■■■■■ would have thought of a better system to form an orderly que, still if you put up with it thats what you get.

Thank for all ur input
It’s catch 22 with this one, I’ve Neva had problem like this b4 , it either kissin ■■■ or creating a job for themselves And making rules as they go bend the rules to young drivers with no clue to squeeze as must work out them without taking breaks until necessary or no other choice like the other week
Pain in the arse Im just going to continue doin what I do and to hell with what they are telling me , as I Neva had bother like this in my previous hgv jobs
My licence is more important to me than it is to them as there moto is iv got a desk full of applications so replaceable

I am not into text speak and as an oldie often find it difficult to read but I have never seen the word never done as neva

I’ve seen I’ve written as iv and before as b4 etc …

Is this a new text speak one ?
