You WON’T get done. Coppers have SOME common sense.

Cheers Vern , I know.

But just in case , can I mention your name

Yeah…The Big is short for Bigglesworth!

Vernon Bigglesworth :open_mouth: all it needs is a hyphen and Smythe and that would be a good name

my nephew got his car impounded for the road tax running out 3 days before hand, he was on his way too the post office too tax it when he was stopped, cost him £250 too get the car out of the pound, £30 for the taxi too get too the place too get the car back and too top it all off when he got it back there was a five inch scratch on the front wing. some coppers have common sense but most dont

Something very, very wrong here. First off, you won’t get the car impounded for no tax for just 3 days out. Typically, warnings are stuck on an untaxed car for about a month. If it still isn’t taxed then, it gets towed.
Second, the tow fee can’t be more than £150. This is government statute, the car will be on road and not damaged, therefore it can’t justify the higher £250 ‘substancially damaged’ tow fee.
Third, the police won’t tow your car for no tax. Having no car tax is not a criminal offence, it’s a civil offence, so the police won’t do anything. What they will do is report you to the DVLA, who may take action. At an extreme for 3 days out of tax, you may get an £80 fine.

I suspect there’s a bit more to it than your nephew’s telling you

I wish I could but unfortunately vehicles can only be taxed online, or at Post Offices and DVLA centres. and both of these are shut on a Sunday :unamused: :unamused:

Im only going to collect the missus from Asda so hopefully will be OK , I’ll smile and flutter my eyelids and wear a short skirt…Oh wait that might not work seeing as Im nearly 50, male, and 18 stone. Then again you never know

shuttlespanker:
if you get stopped, explain the the police what the circumstances are, the most they will give you is a fine for the period that the car is out of tax for

Seems fair enough to me shuts

You’ll be alright if you can put on a Glasgow accent and maybe suggest a Glasgow Kiss would be in order to anyone who stands there extracting the urine! :smiling_imp:

Yeah, think I’ll chance it til Monday locally rather than a mad dash across the M62 from Cheshire to be in Hull before Asda shuts at 4.

Hahahaha

They do quote on the reminder that you get 5 days grace for people taxing on line, so you are unlikely to get done, for all they know you may well be renewing on line.

not quite Trev, the 5 day grace for taxing online is for displaying the disc, it will show up on the database as soon as it is taxed
