Need Help with medical issue

not to get into all the gory details here but basically I’ve had anxiety problems since I was a kid I hit 15 and started drinking this was a problem for me. I wasn’t alcohol dependent I just binge drank I did have Councillor help for it but basically it was an issue for me until about 2 years ago when I got help from a support worker she helped me pull myself out of the hole I dug for myself and got me back on my feet, I really want to do this for a living but my medical file is littered with treatment for depression alcohol drugs anxiety and self harming. just got the forms downloaded today for the medical and realized I might not even be able to get a license, none of my issues are a problem now and certainly do not affect my ability to drive or I wouldn’t get in a car and drive. This feels like a last shot for me I have no qualifications and no real job experience and at 32 it really couldn’t get much worse than that. So does anyone know if I’ll get turned down? will they look at my history and hold it against me?

There is no need to take the LGV medical with your own doctor. In fact we normally use a medical company driversmedicals.co.uk for most of out students. They charge £58.00 The questions the doctor will ask are shown on Form D4 which can be downloaded from the medical company website.

Eyesight test, blood pressure and a few other questions. Normally in and out in 10 minutes so try not to worry too much

Same age as me and don’t worry I have no qualifications and no decent job experience either

As above just book your own medical (I used doctors on wheels) and it’s cheaper and done in 10 mins.
You will know there and then if all ok and can then prepare for the theory etc etc

Good luck

So they wouldn’t look at my history? F**k! I called the DVLA and asked about it and they are sending out a questionnaire for me to fill in, saying that the guy on the phone said If my Dr supported me I could still apply for the provisional license.

so have I shot myself in the foot calling the DVLA? I have only drank about 8 times in two years so I think I can say with certainty I don’t have a alcohol problem and I was never physically dependent on it.

I think you should book a independent doctor, give him/her the d2 medical form, forget the questionnaire and maybe ask the doc after they have filled the form in will your past effect your future. That’s just my opinion

Am I not obliged to fill in the form they are sending? I’m a serious worrier and right now im going out of my mind thinking they might even take my car license off me which to be honest would kill me I don’t get out the house as it is but that would mean never getting out. looked online at the form and it asks in the last three years have you had a problem with alcohol the answer would be yes as in 2011 I was drinking a lot black outs were almost every time I drank. this for me was the bit of hope i needed to be able to pull myself out of this and have decent job that pays well. and i feel like that hope has just been smashed.

Never give up mate, what month in 2011?

all of it and the first half of 2012 so i’ve been clean and sober 2 years now

Personally I wouldn`t mention it on the day of the medical.

I have depression in my medical history and got through medical fine. DVLA sent some questions to my gp who must have been supportive and things went through without further issues.

Spending the cost of the medical to find out (even if it takes a few weeks longer than usual to get response from dvla) would, in my opinion, be worth it to find out either way if you have your heart set on driving.

Forget about the paperwork dvla are sending, book your medical and only answer the questions the doctor asks you. Life’s about risks take one mate [WINKING FACE]

All very well but the OP has informed DVLA of a medical condition albeit unwittingly. To ignore documents that they send out in relation to this could potentially end up with the OP having his licence revoked for all classes.

True point Lee, wasn’t thinking ahead.
