Need advice on LGV training and test centres in South Wales

Hi I am a newbie on here, after driving vans and 7.5 tonne for over 12 years now unemployed looking at LGV training, just passed the theory and hazzard exam, need advice on the following training schools in South Wales for class C.

Red Dragon - Cardiff
£650 & vat for 5 days (test at Llantrisant)

Driver Training Wales - Swansea
£800 & vat for 5 days (test at Neath)

I am from Neath so my preference would be for Driver Training Wales but cost £150 & vat extra  also would like advice on which test centre route is the easiest.

I have read all the post on the relevant searches but would appreciate any new advice on the above thanks.

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

now unemployed looking at LGV training,

What makes you believe that there are job opportunities in this industry

passed the theory and hazzard exam

**WELL DONE ON PASSING YOUR THEORY** :D   **WELL DONE ON PASSING YOUR THEORY** :D   **WELL DONE ON PASSING YOUR THEORY**

would like advice on which test centre route is the easiest.

The route or time of the test will not matter - just the competance of the trainee.
Think about it - what is the point of being able to do an easy test drive in an empty truck when on your first job you may be faced with much more difficult hazards when fully laden

Hi i did my c and c+e with red dragon. For my class c I had a guy called Glynn if you dont like swearing I suggest you go somewhere else. He is a good guy he just shouts and swears when you are making mistakes which I found helpful   They have 2 other guys that do training 1 of them trained me for the c+e but I cant remember his name. Anyway the llantrisant test routes are quite easy I think the hardest route is the cowbrige test route, I found the easiest test route the one through cardiff city centre. The instructer will take you on the test routes a few times so you get used to them. If you want any more info just ask.

Thanks Rog for your reply, I am already aware of the lack of jobs for lorry drivers and know that it will be hard without the 2 years experience but it the same with nearly all jobs without the relevant experience.
Rather than being bored idle, I want learn new skills and love driving, after driving vans and 7.5 tonne for over 12 years just fee that it the right path for me.

If you read my post again I was asking for new advice as I have already stated that i have read all the relevant searches related to my post.

The test route matters to my pocket as i am unemployed, no test drive is going to prepare me for driving fully laden as the test trucks are empty.

Apart from someone giving a recommendation for a training school not already mentioned then I cannot help further in your quest as you know what you wil be facing jobwise and the links in my sig will give you some idea of what you might expect.

I got my C+E from Red Dragon too, and not with Glynn, the other bloke whose name has escaped completely -
Llantrisant’s routes were indeed easy, and not too much stress either. But then again, a saturday test, with nothing on at either Cardiff stadium, outside any holiday season was going to be a gift anyway.
It’s your money, go whichever way you want, if you’re not upset by Glynn’s swearing, and find Cardiff a nicer city to drive a wagon around than Swansea… (I did, I found it nicer in Cardiff than Bristol or Taunton, which are both closer, so I commuted, and didn’t regret a thing.)

I think it is Steve, the guy that sleeps alot and who looks a bit like Horatio from csi:miami

Dont forget ilawales.co.uk/ esky, might get a few quid off the total price if the training company accepts the vouchers from ILA

I did my training with Driver Training Wales and they were brilliant. Richie taught me and I passed first time with 2 minors. If you are from that area then I’d advise staying local, the test routes down there are pretty straight forward and I think there’s only one route that goes through the centre of Swansea.
