Nearly dropped a trailer on its nose today

good_friend:
I use BLANK as was a bugger at forgetting number plates

Ha I like that one, I’ll try and remember that.

I did ask Dipper_Dave what his method was…

Airlines
Number plate
All the other bits
Legs

but I don’t think I’ll try that one, it looks like you could get hurt if you don’t get it right.

Don’t worry to much about it no damage done you learnt a lesson but then I have sort of dropped a trailer got out undid pin then number plate then lines then legs trailer brake came on when airlines released lowered suspension on unit pulled forward slowly but noticed to late & trailer ( it was top heavy mind ) just seemed to drop the boss did see this all happen couldn’t believe it we did have a laugh about it mind managed to get a folk lift to lift up unloaded no damage done

Some of the trailers I use won’t allow you to pull the trailer break as they come on automatic when the lines are released ( fridge units )

As said if you get distracted go back to start again or tell the person to go away politely   of course

I did something very similar with a fridge.

It was a trailer swap where I had to drag the loaded one off the bay, put an empty on, and then take the loaded one. Dead simple; done it dozens of times.

So - I do all the first part ok, and back half under the loaded trailer to get the lines on (there was no room to get in there when it was hitched). I had the plate on the tank, so turned the lights and flashers on and walked round behind to fix the plate and check the lights. That’s where it went wrong.

The guy came out with my paperwork, and while I am checking and signing, he helpfully winds the legs up, and we have a bit of a chat. Then I climb in the cab and drive off…: Ooops.

Actually not quite Ooops, as, like the OP, I felt it and stopped just in time. No harm done and a lesson learned.

this is the way i do it
out the cab walk down the offside, collect number plate, walk up the nearside, parking brake(new trailers now have auto parking brake when red air line is uncoupled)wind down legs, uncouple airlines and electrics, walk around the front to the drivers door, put number plate in cab, pull the pin.
yes i have dropped a trailer on its knees twice but both times i was lucky as the trailer was empty and you dont half get a sweat on winding the legs up on slow speed and also ive also pulled away with the airlines still connected.i must admit all this was done when i was still green behind the ears and since ive adopted the system i use ive not had any problems and ive also learned that when you are dropping a trailer and anyone comes over to talk to you,do the walk around again just to be on the safe side
