National speed limits

Just a quick one… When a national speed limit is removed and changed to say, a 50mph limit on a single carriage A road, does the 40mph national limit still apply to HGV’s? or can we go up to the new 50 limit?

Pretty sure it’d still be 40.

the number of wagons who overtake me on this road…

Yep, it’d still be 40mph, no change we aren’t that lucky.

Well I don’t do a great deal of motorway driving, and a lot of A roads are changing from the national speed limit to specified speeds, however I always stick to the national speed limit rules… but I always have loads of wagons overtaking me all the time… doesn’t bother me being overtaken, but I was wondering if I was in the wrong for sticking to the 40/50mph rules…

You’re correct, it’s always a maximum 40 on a single and 50 on a dual regardless of a higher limit being displayed.

One of my mates got done for doing 50 on a dual carriageway where they’d shut the inside lane for road works.

why ■■ was the notied speed limit signed to 40 ■■ if not the legal speed would still be 50

50mph
whats the problem

I doubt it. It’s still a dual carriageway and as nick2008 said, unless the limit has been lowered by roadwork signs, it’s still 50mph.

surely it was still a DUAL carriageway, albiet a single lane one.

From what he said it was a dual carriageway with speed limit set to 50mph and he got done for not dropping to 40.

Might be a really dumb question but I’ve had a few beers so makes perfect sense in my head but…

Can a speed camera tell the difference between a wagon and a car so say the speed limit is 60 national and I come past in my artic on the limiter, where for me the limit should be 50, will I get flashed??

There are some around the country that have weight sensors in the road apparently. So yes, you could get done at those ones…

I stick to 50 on that road, and get overtaken by wagons on the limiter… That’s the problem.

What it’s that much of a problem your getting upset about it, let them overtake whats your problem ? Or keep up with them and take the consequences if caught !

so, from what you said earlier, brings me to this question, to everyone, apart from ROG

what is the speed limit for a truck on the road in the picture?

study the picture, give your answer, and explain your answer

edit to add: none of the driver trainers are allowed to answer, not just ROG

Well i think its 50 mph ,my reasoning its a dual carriageway ,but with the other carriageway on the rh side hidden by the hedge

Mind you having looked at the road sign ahead ,im not now convinced it is a dual carriageway :unamused: , so 40 mph

ok im going with 40 MPH :grimacing:

i think

cheers Mike
