I’m only guessing but maybe driving a conventional not cab over made all the difference between life or death in that case 
. 
No wonder it’s such a mess - those Road Trains don’t hang about, so a head-on collision is bound to be an absolute horror. Amazed the drivers weren’t killed!

Or maybe the accident wouldn’t have happened at all with a decent wagon. 
I’ve seen this thing on the road in the metal, and it was ridiculous. It’s only allowed to operate on a small area of roads between two mines in the outback - a PROPER road train!
Used to talk to a lad there. Weight limits were(are?) 2 trailers 90 ton, 5 trailers 250 ton.
A bit different to that Stobart wag n drag with “road train” written on it !
