Name and shame, who are the bad payers in the uk

I will not mention the firm, but as i was tipping in Whitchurch we found a load out of there for Paris, at a rate of £450 and pay your own ferry,no chance :frowning: a lithuanian truck loaded it.
Klunk

i think klunk hit the nail on the head, there is always some one else willing to do the work for less ,which has killed the trucking industry.

He’s just gone back on there

I’ve just taken a job for £8.00 flat for Class II, with occasional I, at a firm that used to pay £9.00 plus time and a half o/t.

But, but but but but but, they’re a fifteen minute bike ride away, they never moan about how long you take so long as it comes off, no timed deliveries, and it’s an early finish most Fridays.

Mind you, I’ll be leaving to find something more lucrative as soon as it’s available, and once they’ve paid for my CPC.

think it should go on hourly rates as your always going to have a chap who works 60 hours does 5 nights out and says i lift great money!

the worst offer i have ever had was years ago at a north east firm who after driving round the yard unit only informed me i had passed my assesment and offered me 3.20per hour but i got to do nightshift every 4th week at £5 i politely said no thanks and walked out!

A good few years ago I was looking at going back to a decent company (Good kit, and ran legal) when I left them they were paying £6.50 per hour, time and a half after 8 hours ( was done on a day basis) time and a half all day saturday , double time Sunday - bank holidays were double time and a day in lieu

6years later when I was looking for a bit of work the same company offered me £7.10 an hour time and a third after 50 hours in the week, Saturdays and Sundays at time and a third, but if you were on overtime rate for being over 50 hours your time and a third was only on your basic not the enhanced rate

The lieu days dissapeared totally

I worked out that on an average week my cash in the pocket would have been worth almost the same in real terms as i was earning with them 6 years ago- not moved forward at all

There are plenty of jobs around here paying £80 a day, and expecting a 15 hour day for that.

£80/15 = £5.33 per hour.

I was talking to a driver today, who stated that for CFS, he was paid £408 per week and £20 per night out. He wasnt a happy bunny!!!

Sounds to me like the industry is totally ■■■■■■,the operators can’t get cheaper road tax, insurance, fuel, spares and reductions in the initial capital outlay/leasing/contract hire costs ! So where do they turn to “squeeze the stone” why the drivers of course! you can allways do a “smoke and mirror” con job on them with their “percieved” limited intelligence, as a way to beat the rates down a bit further and survive for another year or so !! What a ■■■■■■ industry it must be to work and operate within to-day !! Cheers Bewick.

A highly respected and long standing haulier in the Huddersfield area pays £7.16ph for 50 hours then time and half!! After breaks it’s really nearer 54 hours before ot.
There’s also another in the Bradford area paying £345 for 45 hours then a massive £8ph ot.
Disgraceful wages for class 1 work.

If that’s take home then I’d say that was an average wage for class 1 in this day and age

I think you have hit the nail straight on the head , only recently I was forced into retirement at 67 as was some of my old colleague`s and replaced by agency staff , a fate awaiting all of my younger ■■? former work mates , and in the words of my old boss " using agency drivers is a tap you can turn off and on if needed " .

I always believed that using Agency drivers was a total false economy, and still do!! But I never ever considered it and ,of course,it was only in it’s infancy during my later years in the industry.Things then hadn’t started to turn as ■■■■■■ as they seem to have become to-day,although the signs were starting to appear in the mid 90’s,and they didn’t look good !! Cheers Bewick.

When I opened this thread I thought it was about companies that took ages to pay for subbie work. I was wrong but not suprised.
I’m interested to read that not everyone, (in the south particularly) work for rates not much different to what what is paid here in the “frozen north”. We will still hear from the " I wouldn’t get out of bed for that brigade"about how much better off they are. I must stress I am talking about general haulage wages which is the part of the industry I have been involved in most of my 44 years in the job. I will also say that lately I have worked for rates between £7.50 and £12, but I would rather work for low wages than take handouts from the state whether it be rent rebates or tax and family credits. Regards Kevmc47.

It didn’t used to be viable to use agency drivers at over £10ph plus the couple of quid the agency charge. But now you look at a paye drivers wage, plus the employers ni contributions. Minimum 28 days holiday, sick pay pension and uniform etc. Compare that to paying an agency £8ph all up for the hours worked, he gets £7ph limited co. Not such a crazy idea after all

E.S.L!!! :grimacing: eddie stobart limited! As it’s now a P.L.C? And William can’t get rid of his flunkys on the board I’ve not had a pay rise for five years! :imp: 71 hrs Monday to Friday and if your interested 13 hrs sat! roll up roll up 84 hrs no thank you very much! Too many long days and if you run out of hours? Sorry I meant WHEN YOU’RE PLANNED OUT OF HOURS they take too long to pick you up! :bulb:   The Richard Head who doubles up as a operations manager at Appleton even has a book for you to sign once you get back to retrieve your vehicle! 19 hour shifts no problem! :grimacing: wonder what vosa would think about that of they read it! IN BLACK AND WHITE lads!!! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:
No overtime = no incentive to give up my days off for nothing! I’ve five kids, go fishing, watch the football and get bladdered at weekends! And that’s how I’m free to dispose of my time away from cab hotel which is on bed mode on the digi! Lol :grimacing: :grimacing:

I think anyone who has a blue or green operator licence in the windscreen are amongst the bad payers, especially if it begins with OB or OD followed by seven numbers :stuck_out_tongue:
