With regard to Tesco store goods in staff, I found that during the short time I did agency driving for them the recieving staff at most stores treated me like crap. Once I wore the Tesco uniform I was treated like a VIP.
This is because they see agencies as taking away perminant drivers jobs … as indeed so did I.
When you are a full time Tesco employed driver, it’s “You go and get breakfast driver, we’ll unload you and reload the empty cages”
Thing is if you don’t show that it’s got to you, their bad attitude I mean, they haven’t won. They only won if they succeed in getting your blood up.
I’m a miserable bleeder most of the time anyway so it just washes over me, sometimes it does get to me if someone is overly obsternate or rude but I wouldn’t let on at the time that its bothered me. Best way in my opinion.
However if someone makes the effort to be nice to me then I will reciprocate.
On this side of the pond I have to say it would be any C & S warehouse. The reievers are arrogant rude ■■■■■■■■■ as with most extortionate companies over here they don’t employ full time unloaders because it would mean providing them with insurance and benefits etc, so the use ‘Lumpers’ who are mostly self employed and change the drivers riddiculous amounts of cash to unload their trucks.
Example … C & S Newburgh NY, early 2003, I was told it would cost me $480.00 to take 24 pallets off my truck, I told them to f*** off and I would unload it my self.
“Do you hold a fork lift permit ?” the ■■■■■■■ asked.
“NO” I replied.
“Do you want to hire a fork lift driver ?”
“How much ?”
“$480.00”
I pulled the trailer off the bank and asked the goods in lady for my paperwork, the manager asked why and I told him that they obviously did not want the goods because they wouldn’t unload it, I grabbed my notes and drove to the out gate where a security git told me I was wanted on the internal phone, it was the manager who asked me to take the trailer to the shipping side of the building where they would unload it with no fee but ‘please don’t tell any other drivers ?’ … yeah, like hell, I told every one of them
Tesco Fradley - barely got a grunt of acknowledgment when actually face to face. Actually only said one thing “bay 153”.
Tesco Grocery DIRFT - great, pleasant almost chatty.
I don’t want a red carpet or a full on reception but ■■■■ me how hard is it to say “hello”
It isn’t much effort to actually be civil no matter what mood or however many drivers you see.
They seem to forget they are still customer facing roles they are in as every single driver is potential shopper and as we know there are a fair few of us. Times that by the amount of people in our immediate families. Starts to stack up doesn’t it.
I think the phrase is don’t bite the hand that feeds - yeah they give us work but without us amongst others they wouldn’t get the profits they get albeit in decreasing amounts.
Norberts Heathrow. There’s about 6 of them through the window at goods in and they all look up at you then back down at their i-phones until there are 3 or 4 drivers waiting then one of them sighs, gets up and says “yes?” to you then and only then can you get on with your job of delivering stuff to them.

Annoys the hell out of me when you are stood at the window/desk and they point blank ignore you, whilst shuffling through papers or typing on the computer. They know your there, but will only attend to you when good and ready.
If they are busy, fair enough, just tell me “won’t be a minute” or something rather than leave us stood their like a plank. It’s just sheer rudeness. Always get this on the ambient side at Iceland Warrington, the waiting room there is an insult as well.
Not been to one Morrisons processing centres since my ban a few weeks back.
My driving experience is so much the better for it, I am happier in the knowledge that I don`t have to put up with the jobsworths and silly H&S rules in these insidious places.
I used to do the occasional shop at Morrisons, but no longer, purely as they do not know how to treat a human being as a human being.

Palletways at Fradley Park.Security man is very pleasant, but the lads in the office are some of the most ignorant bunch of miserable kunts i have ever met.You just know that they have a resentment for lorry drivers. Most of the forkies are just the same.
I forgot to mention some crews at my base terminal that load the sucrose into the tankers. One shift team are amazing, they set to work on getting us loaded within minutes of clocking in for work, then as we are being loaded, which usually takes about 30 minutes they do all the testing and paperwork needed, they get us loaded and on the road asap.
Then there’s the bad shift teams. If they are one the end of the shift (07.00am for instance) we get under the loading pipe at 06.00am, take the loading manifest to them and it’s “Shift ends soon, too late to start you” and they just sit there reading or sleep for a while, then the second bad team arrives at 07.00am and spend an hour reading or chatting before starting the loading, meanwhile the 07.00 appointment trucks are now in line. Before tankers are loaded they have to be sterilised, which takes 15 minutes at a different location on site. If we have a midnight loading appointment the guy who runs the wash bay will start at 11.00pm and sit reading till midnight which makes us 15 minutes late for loading, then the loader says “Your late” and makes us wait.

Wagman:
Most if not all Tesco goods in staff , with the Woman at Thurrock being the worst , god I hate her !I know its sad but she was the main reason Ive banned anyone in my house shopping at Tesco lol
This is why I hate tesco with a passion, every single one of the DCs & most stores I’ve been to are ■■■■. Those women in Thurrock need a lesson in manners & respect & I don’t want any of my family & friends shopping there. Morrison is another, especially the stores, so miserable on check outs…
Bill at ADM Erith takes (needs) some beating…

Amazing! Does this practice still persist, ten years on? Us geriatric UK drivers are always keen to lend a hand and have a go but… Good job you acted as you did!

Do what I do, remove your hi-viz and turn your back, then they soon notice you , then when they shout of you ignore them 2or3 times, then turn around, look exagerratedly surprised, and say “Oh! you CAN see me then” It does get your point across to the ignorant ■■■■■■■■■
Morrisons RDC Burton Lattimer. Girls behind the desk notice you but then look away you then say hello and just get ignored. They are rude and i hated going there for Wisemens
Who on boxes remembers the fit young blonde piece at LCS? I don’t think I ever saw or heard her to talk another driver in all the time I frequented that place. She’d just carry on her conversation with the others in the office and take and hand back your paperwork without uttering a word to you.
Morrisons ambient at Wakefield is another place. Portakabin full of ignoramuses.
Done a trailer change and took 26 pallets of easter eggs into Asda at Magna Park, nice light and easy job. Backed on the door handed the keys in then given them back 5 minutes later. One the pallets didn’t have shrink wrap around it and some of boxes had moved so they refused to tip me until the five or so boxes were on straight. Wouldn’t let me straighten them in the warehouse while I was on the door, instead they made me drive off their premises, 10 second job and I was queuing at the gatehouse again.
Apparently I wasn’t insured to be in the warehouse, funny thing is that they’ve had me in there in the past to split a pallet
Having said that they’re usually pretty good in there …
