My wifes experience with wallies at Wallace [Merged]

I paid £1800 to Wallace to train my misses. She wanted to become a hgv driver, bless her. I went along for the drive around before the big test. I was shocked at the behaviour of the instructor in Watford branch. His name is simon, and he was way over the top over reacting to my misses driving.

Im LGV 1 driver for 12 years, and I was impressed at my misses abilities. Honestly, she was better than me, as you might be surprised that women are really natural at driving lorries.

He was already stressed from the long hours of training, and he was really milking it for the company. He made her focus on the rev counter and if she made a mistake, he would lose it. He tempered his behaviour when he noticed in the corner of his eye, me glaring at him.

He was clearly wasting a lot of our money and her time on the making her focus on the rev counter all the time, when he could have simply told her the max speed in each gear.

It was clearly a ■■■■-take. Then at one point he really lost it and reached over to grab the wheel, when she was clearly driving at a safe distance from the near-side parked cars. Then he tried to defend his behaviour by going on about - what if someone opened their door… any way she failed because he didn’t give her enough training on the courses, because the test centre was in yeading, and they were driving around Watford and park royal. she didn’t spend hardly any time in the circuits near yeading until on the day, so she came to an intersection where she had to turn right on uxbridge rd, and it was one of those where you had to move into the middle of the rd and turn when the light changes red, that’s the only opportunity she had, she timed it wrong and ended up in the middle of the rd, thus failing, apart from that she would have passed.

when they returned to the test centre this simon looked happy, and I thought she had passed, when I heard she failed I felt sick to the stomach. He shouldn’t be training if he has stress or an attitude towards women.

Also the guy stank of BO, I had trouble focusing while his arm pits were wafting the cab out. Im really angry with this company. They are phoney nice guys, they are like all the rest, they have every incentive for you to fail, and absoloutly no incentive for you to pass. The icing on the business model cake is for you to fail at least once.

No thanks to Wallies at Wallace, RIP-OFF!!!

My advice is always let them know you are paying by credit card, and you will be posting your reviews on sites like trucknet.

Sorry to hear your wife had such a bad experience mate. I hope it hasn’t knocked her confidence too much.

I think the trainers who post here, are likely to say that this is where an assessment drive comes in handy. As you get a feel for the trainer, while they get a feel for your abilities.

I think it’s a bit of a negative and sweeping statement to say that all instructors or training schools want you to fail, as that is not logical. Trainers want to have a good pass rate and get recommendations from previous clients, as word of mouth is worth it’s weight in gold. Also, I’ve not heard/read a single criticism of any of the trainers on here…

Best of luck, hope your wife gets back on the horse (So to speak…)

I had a right bell end when I did my cat c, I went elsewhere for my c+e, tell her not to let it get her down it will be worth it in the end.

I trained with Wallace for both class 2 and 1 and never encountered Simon (I had Con who trains out of Croydon; I took my test in Guildford). I don’t think he mentioned the rev counter even once. Neither did the dreadful Alan at Coates. This guy should be reported as he needs disciplining or sacking.

OMG> WTF>. call Wallace himselfe. He will sort you out. Tell him about your instructor. they are very Vocal about how professional they are.

I trained with Les in Yeading, and we were best friends for a week. If you go for retest Ask for Les. (Hes best in the busness. ) No offence to others. I passed with clean sheet. The guy is an Angel.

He took me around yeading and told me all there is to pass. If your miss almost got it, i think 4h with Les + test will get her thro.

The company itself is very professional.

Mr Les Humphrey

Can’t say I ever hear any complaints of Wallace, one of our ex instructors came from them and he was extremely capable without a complaint in the few years he worked for us before moving to the MOD.

I would suggest you inform Wallace so that they can take appropriate action. Obviously I was not able to see how the training was conducted and its possible the instructor was justified in his actions, but I would not like to judge anyone without first hand experience. I’m sure his manager will have an idea of the situation more fully hopefully having met your wife and employing the instructor.

I’ve trained drivers who swear they drive perfectly, and the examiner was an idiot not to pass someone as good as them at driving, when its apparent to me and somehow not them that they are nowhere close to a capable driver. I’m not saying that you are wrong with your judgment, the instructor could be poor but it also works both ways. There is no right or wrong view, only different individuals view points - and sometimes they don’t match…us instructors get very used to that, as I say - ‘its our job to be annoying (in a nice way), or the examiner will be even more annoying by informing you that you have not passed!’
