Hello again, this will be my second and hopefully the last diary of me driving a truck that has a bed in it.
After a day spent collecting sofas from a factory and a terminal near Tallinn, I head out to the Port of Paldiski, this time the southern port, the scenery is pretty much the same:
most of them going to russia. the heavier equipment, that gets sent by rail, receives their pretrip treatment here - the windows get covered in plywood.
and these are heading for their well-earned vacation (or not) in warmer climates
■■■■■■■■, it’s the horror of the baltic sea - MS Regal Star. I guess I’ve been spoiled by the likes of TT Line etc, as this is a barebones cattle ship. The food is terrific but the cabins are old and shoddy. As the crewman directing the loading asks me if I have ever been on top deck (really tight and difficult place to maneuver) I reply something along the lines of “yea… ages ago”, hoping I’ll get to park somewhere I can get off fast in the morning.
well guess again! down to the basement we go
room for 17 lorries and the first one down will be driving on swedish soil two hours after the first lorry on first floor
yea it’s quite snotty around stockholm
no time to admire the weather though, five drops to do
but first things first some very nice pasta with minced meat and a delicious apple pie, courtesy of my gf
first drop in västeras, in and out in five minutes, four or five sofas
weather’s getting better, given I only have two tons in the trailer, that’s some good news
and in tibro, furniture capital of sweden, the sun is out and about
and vlantana is not
the local shunter
booring…
the guardrail has trapped the driver due to some unprofessional driving, driver blames the betrayal at Yalta
everyone’s got a home to go to tonight
but I only have just another mom and pop furniture store to deliver to in Sollebrunn
and some quality programming to end the day with
after delivering in uddevalla, head south for a bit
and empty out the trailer in Stenungsund
stop for an unneeded break north of uddevalla
only to discover, that the bloddy albanians have made off with my doorhandle!!!
and some plastic
and the muffler cover and on top of that, crashed the rear end into a trailer!!1!
well actually, the muffler cover was stolen and the doorhandle is the result of a traffic accident in russia, after which the gaffer had the brilliant idea to remove the handle to hinder breakins like sleeping with a girl with a wooden leg, it is.
waiting for my 8 pallets of paper in billingsfors.
and head for amal for 4 pallets of chinese interior design crap
next morning starts with some exercise, as Alari, who arrived last night from Oslo, has a few pallets that need to go on my truck. I had a bottle of vodka the day before that I could’ve used to arrange the help of the forkie at the place I loaded in Amal, but the bottle had a way of disappearing between the two of us.
This is his 105.510 at four months old. And he hates it with a passion.
some more visitors at the rest area in amal
a squadron of black coupes registered in stuttgart. I have one in blue, just like that. The Skoda, that is
I had a 24 off at the rest are, didn’t plan on it but there was not much cargo to be found around those parts of sweden this week. Friday afternoon I got a call from the gaffer, that there was a part load from Arvika, but it would only be ready Sunday afternoon. This was not okay with me, as Monday morning I had promised to be at my new job and that meant I had to be on the ferry from Kapellskär Sunday morning the latest. But I agreed to go and see if I could quicken the production with my copious amounts of charm (cough-cough )
Wahlquist are currently moving most of their production from Sweden to Estonia, built a huge factory near Tallinn and recruited all the best possible employees their money could buy. A friend of mine is the third man from the top in the factory - M. Sc in engineering from a very good university etc etc. And I make more than him driving a truck four days a week
well that’s all for now, I’m getting many complaints from the other side of the bed about the time of day and the 6am wake-up call
