My thanks to 2 drivers

M1 North Friday approx 16:20 between J23a & J24

(I don’t know if any are members or not but-)

I would like to thank the driver who phoned my company and told them I had no lights working on the trailer. I pulled onto the slip road at J24 and had a look but couldn’t figure what it was there and then and it was rapidly getting darker, a police car stopped and escorted me to the services.

At the services another driver gave me use of his suzes so I could check mine by trial and error and soon identified a duff lead.

I had no spares but fortunately another one of our drivers who was very near the vicinity and solo came to the rescue.

Once again thanks to all concerned - it wasn’t the best of times on a friday to have a problem

Now THATS what the job is about, helping each other. A big thumbs up to your mate and the driver who called your firm, and the coppers who escorted you.
Isn’t it nice when we all pull together, makes the job so much better.

Sadly, incidents like this are rare nowadays, but a big thumbs up to all concerned.

Even the police helping a truck driver? That’s a rareity in itself!!!

Ken.

It just explains one thing the company you work for and alse the comapny i work for DO NOT supply in each vehicle spare suzies quite stupid really as the cost of a fitter to come out and replace it , its probably a hell of a lot cheaper to have one in the truck and let the driver change i buyt some companies think drivers are dumb and cant change a suzie!!!.

yes jammy 100% behind you there,i used to have two sets of suzzies in my unit, but when we where securicor they decided to sell the garage and volvo came in and bought it over along with the mechanics as well.since then we ain’t even allowed to have spare bulbs in the units.we have to sit and wait till the fitter turns up.stupid really,5mins to change bulb or suzzie or 2hrs till fitter turns up.i know which one i would want.

That reminds me of an incident a few weeks ago.
I was on The M1 heading back to Immingham and after it got dark a few car drivers and trucks started flashing me and putting their hazards on as they passed me. I pulled over onto the hard shoulder and discovered that not only did I have no trailer lights but no rear lights or indicators. The only lights that worked were the brake lights
I did some rudimentary checks but could find nothing wrong so I belled the company I was working for (I’m agency) to tell them.
Their response? Just take it easy and get yourself back to base.
Well I’m still a bit green in this job and eager to please so like a complete idiot I did as they asked!!
I travelled virtually the whole distance with my left foot just touching the brake pedal so at least the brake lights were on.
I guess you learn by your mistakes in this job and believe me I will NEVER do that again.

If you end up in a situation like that again where you have no option that to keep moving for safety reasons, PUT THE FOGLIGHTS ON. The foglights are fed from the second electrical lead, not the main one, so should still work.

what a gr8 story, glad that someone had the common sense to help you, and the cops? WOW!

Thats’s what its all about

take care
