Trick is to sweet talk them. If they are female, chat em up, even if, no especially if, they are old. If they are male, smile; say hello; sympathise with their problems; try to be as helpful as you can.
It is amazing how much faster and easier the day goes if you can get on with the people on the back doors of the shops.
Cant handle gears and now you cant figure out how to lock the door? And you are thinking of getting a C+E?

We’ve been doing it a hell of a lot longer. Trust me you’ll be whinging about the same crap as we do 10 years down the line.

I drive a CF, three axle 21 tonner with 8 gears 
and I’ve used all of them) and I use a key to lock my door - same one for the ignition and the passenger door 
. Which is amazin’ considering she’s done nearly 700,000 kliks …but I have a different key to unlock the fuel cap. I found a useful switch on the dash that locks/unlocks the passenger door 
, saving me having to remember to wander round and lock it. If you want to feel safer on a break ('aving a kip) you can always use the slidey-lock button thingy built into door…

I used to drive a Tarmac paver on motorways done van sales and run my own business for 5 years but this is great ur own independence great team back at the office great people on the company it’s only 15mins from my house. I worked out how to lock my door lean out the window then lock it lol most places are ok you just get the odd customer who say no hgv in here did you not see the sign went back to the entrance there’s no sign there ■■■■■■■■■. The thing is with running your own business is it never ends your constantly working or thinking about working to get the next buck in this is drop keys of and your free it’s great and I know the money is not fantastic but in 5 years when I’ve done my CE there will 100% be a greater shortage than now and agency are paying between 11-15£ph now so think what it’s going to be then it’s got to go up for all experienced drivers.
I’m really happy with it it’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever done and I’m also meeting so many new friends truckers are a friendly bunch exept for the odd c?nT who thinks they know every thing but you can’t avoid these people they worm there way into your conversation. But appreciate the advice always just talking about the patronising pric?s

In 10 years time, and more likely in 2-3 years time, the eu will remove the last of the cabotage restrictions and virtually all internal UK transport will be carried out by eastern Europeans, just as virtually all continental transport now is. Waberer’s aren’t building a massive new depot at Felixstowe for the fun of it.
