I’ve been drving for a few years now, but only ever got one new motor, , a Renault 340 Major in 1996. my brother just got his 3rd. :wink]
And all 3 were/is Premiums, And remember when you got that new one, i got a secondhand one, though it was a turboliner, which was an improvement on a G290 aswell
Andyroo:
I like the look of those older renualts, they look more like lorries than the premium IMO.
Nice pics.
Perhaps because it is basically the old Berliet cab, which later morphed into the Transcon.
You’re not old enough to be another misty eyed Transcon fan are you Andy?

I drive a Privalage cab Premium, infact i’m on my 3rd one, but i dont think its is an improvement on the turboliner cab, which as Spardo note’s was the berliet cab, borrowed by ford, and by the time it had been developed into the turboliner quiet a well laid out living space, IMHO
Though i allways rated the MAN 362 as a good all round machine,
jonboy:
isn’t there a company down in devon that still runs them renaults. im sure they run out of oakhampton or launceston.
is it thompson’s
jon
Yes Thompsons from Moretonhampstead between Oakhampton and Bovey Tracey, they used to run a lot G290’s the same as where me and Muckles used to work did, but they have a lot of premiums now, and some other makes aswell
Thompsons must still have G-cabbed Renaults because I saw one coming over Thelwall the other week pulling a single axle tank (looked like a cream tank)

Yes they still have a few G340 Managers on the road, the cab which was originally called the club four cab, that was Renualt Volvo Fiat{pre iveco} and Daf, all except Daf used the cab shell, but Daf only uesd the base.

Salut, David.
Christ no I’m very young. …I’m going purely on looks…I’d say that cab and the Iveco Turbo/Turbostar cab are my favourites.
Wheel Nut:
I liked the 340 we had as a demo, and my boss got a couple of 365 Turboliners after that.
We had a G290 with a single compartment tank, it was able to carry 25700kg running at 38 tonne
sounds like your asociation with Renault is longer than mine, and i understand you presently cruise the highways and byways in a Premium
my turboliner was a 340, but then most of the average motors were only around 350 bhp then, but at 38 ton it was found wanting little bit more
brit pete:
a nice set of pictures showing a nice hard working truck, ta mate
Thanks I think most of us don’t bother taking pictures of fleet motors on everday work. Those Renaults were never flash, but were good hard working motors, really did keep pluging away on Building sites and farms.
Rob K:
So Eddie Snax and Muckles are brothers, do I deduce correctly
Not alot gets past you Rob We also worked for Buxton’s and Eddie has some great photo’s, So come on Eddie post them, I’ll put them on a web site so you can link them.
