My life in road transport

Alec:
Here are some more pics:

Two Leyland Comet’s 400 cu in engines. 871 XTU was my motor. 5 speed box, 2 speed axle. One of the loads I picked up sticks out in my mind, catchweight bags of seed from the Isle of White to Chester, didn’t know what weight I had on till I got onto the weybridge in Chester. It turned out it was an 18 tonne payload. (Didn’t go too bad either).

Top: Just thought I’d post this one of a long forgotten firm Andrew’s and Bond, if Brian Elves is on TN he’ll recognise this as one of his own.
Bottom: Len Rowley with a Leyland Comet

Top left: Me with the Seddon 5l, with the argon cylinders from BOC Worsley.
Top right: New TK Bedford contracted on Anderson’s roofing.
Bottom: Part of Rowley’s fleet. Pre-1969 (sorry about grainy picture).

More to follow…

My Dad worked for Andrews and Bond for a while, just before they moved from Water St ? to Irlam ,also his best mate (They grew up together in Peel Green ) worked for Air Products not as a driver but in the Gragare at Carrington went by the name of Joe Connor . Brain lives over in Ireland not far from Ballyhaunis which is were they pull most of the lambs from

Did Andrews & Bond become Allenby Transport? Allenby were at Boysnope Wharf at the start of Irlam in the yard that Taylor Barnard occupied donkeys years ago. The same yard now. just after Makro on the A57, is an outfit called 10-4 Distribution.
