Two Leyland Comet’s 400 cu in engines. 871 XTU was my motor. 5 speed box, 2 speed axle. One of the loads I picked up sticks out in my mind, catchweight bags of seed from the Isle of White to Chester, didn’t know what weight I had on till I got onto the weybridge in Chester. It turned out it was an 18 tonne payload. (Didn’t go too bad either).

My Dad worked for Andrews and Bond for a while, just before they moved from Water St ? to Irlam ,also his best mate (They grew up together in Peel Green ) worked for Air Products not as a driver but in the Gragare at Carrington went by the name of Joe Connor .
