Alec, I agree with peggydeckboy. Please keep it going. Even, tales what may seem uninteresting to you are often interesting to many others on here.
Hi Alec Cracking photos keep them coming mate.If I remember correctly it wasn’t to long ago that some of the members were thinking of staying off the the Tnet forum for a while due to the lack of new threads being posted so yours has come as a breath of fresh air mate.So my advice is dont give up and keep posting, cheers John.
Keep them coming, it’s a very interesting thread. Thank you.
Hi Alec,
Were T.Rowley of Sale related to the Rowley that this ERF belongs to? ( owner of Firow truck hire I think )
Keep posting Alec. for every comment and reply you get there will be 30 viewers of your post who won’t reply, but who will be very interested.
Rest assured Alec, your story with supporting photos will get well read on here, unique in its own right. A marker for checking how many look in is to pause mouse cursor on the photo to get the number of views, this unfortunately does not happen with your snaps, maybe grandson can fix it’s all about method used to upload, try it on the pete smith picture and you get a count. Keep it going
Cheers
Oily
that o,model bedford surely must have a perkins p6 engine in it alec.
Here are some more pics:
Two Leyland Comet’s 400 cu in engines. 871 XTU was my motor. 5 speed box, 2 speed axle. One of the loads I picked up sticks out in my mind, catchweight bags of seed from the Isle of White to Chester, didn’t know what weight I had on till I got onto the weybridge in Chester. It turned out it was an 18 tonne payload. (Didn’t go too bad either).
Top: Just thought I’d post this one of a long forgotten firm Andrew’s and Bond, if Brian Elves is on TN he’ll recognise this as one of his own.
Bottom: Len Rowley with a Leyland Comet
Top left: Me with the Seddon 5l, with the argon cylinders from BOC Worsley.
Top right: New TK Bedford contracted on Anderson’s roofing.
Bottom: Part of Rowley’s fleet. Pre-1969 (sorry about grainy picture).
More to follow…
Hello Pete Smith, The name Rowley on this picture I don’t think is related to the Rowley’s of Sale that I worked for, The name is quite common around the midlands area, but I don’t know of any Rowley with the Christian name of Sam.
Hi bigal20,The OB Bedford in question did have a P6 in it ,installed in Rowley’s garage, in 1954, but the vehicle was taken off the road in 1956,to be replaced with a new A type Bedford with the Perkins P6 in it, and the old Bedford HMB 518 was to be mine When I passed my test at 17,Well you can imagine being 16 and as keen as mustard to get on the road ,in my spare time working in the Garage I fell in love with this motor and used to drive it round the yard at every opportunity, But what did I do in the winter of 1956 ,or rather what didn’t I do.DRAIN THE RADIATOR.( what a dummy,) mind you I was only 16. It cracked the block and the vehicle was scrapped, What a crying shame(lesson learned) Cheers Alec.
Great pictures and information Alec. Thanks for making the effort. Much appreciated. Johnny

Hellow Alec, firstly thankyou for all the pics, I wonder in many years to come what future lorry drivers will say when they see today’s volvos, mercs, etc and say ,I wonder how they did it,as we say about 8 leggers
etc that must of caused some misery■■?
I am well retired, but I still enjoy looking at all the old lorry pictures, for that thank you
Re spelling!!! As I was told don’t worry mate, nobody is perfect,as long as its understandable so what?

Hello Alec. My name is Scott Timothy Pustai. I happened to be searching the Internet for names of my kids, mom and dad and happened onto your posts. Your post dated February 15, 2016 at 6:24 PM titled, “My Life in Road Transport (Episode 2)”. You have posted a photo of 2 Allied Van Lines tractor trailers side by side and the caption, Top: On the way back from Detroit. My mate Ted Pustai (Hungarian driver). That is my father!! I was blown away to stumble onto this and it brought a huge smile to my face. Ted retired from T-R in 1990 and moved back to Hungary. We used to travel back and forth all the time to see each other. Unfortunately, my father past away several years ago from pancreas cancer. Anyway, this is a quick introduction just to say hello. Would love to chat more with you about my father. FYI, my company is called TOTAL Transportation Solutions Inc., and we are based in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. My brother Toby is my business partner. Take care for now and hope to hear from you.
