My life in road transport: Part 2

Top: My first Atki Borderer at Priestner’s.
Bottom: Ford Transcon (I only paid £1200 for this tractor unit). Cracking motor! No problem at all! With my son (right) and Steve Chapman (driver, left).

Top: My first Atki Borderer as an owner driver for Gerald Priestner. This vehicle wasn’t exactly trouble free (Kirkstall hub oil seals, ■■■■■■■ 220. porous liners). David Brown 6 speed gear box (not up to the job). Finished up putting a 10 speed Fuller box in it after that it was ok. Note my homemade sleeper on the back!
Bottom: 4 vehicles that I owned working for Jim Aidley.

Top: Richard, my son working for Jim Aidley as a fitter.
Bottom: Me and the Transcon working for United Biscuits.

Top: One of Aidley’s Scania’s that I think finished up at Buick’s (Dennis might recognise this by the number).
Bottom: Scania 111 on the left which I bought new (probably the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever bought). Right, another picture of the Transcon.

Top: When the gross weights went up to 38 tonnes. I bought this left hand drive Scania 111 in Holland. It had a 305 BHP engine in it and good motor and it served me well.
Bottom: The Scania again, working for Air Products.

Top: Scania at Air Products Carrington ready for the off on a night run to Mc key Foods at Milton Keynes.
Bottom: One of Aidley’s 4 wheelers. Just thought I’d slip this one in (as the bishop said to the actress!)

Left: Me on the way back from Gt Yarmouth with two high pressure demountable vessels.
Right: My mate Alan Reid, Carrington driver. Unfortunately, taken from us too young with a brain tumour (good fella).

Left: Me taken in the yard at AP Carrington.
Right: Me loading pure Argon at AP Rosenburg, Holland.

Hi Boblad, where are you working at now Bob, are you still on for Robert Walker at Bredbury, hope your keeping well .I’ve finished driving myself,I had to surrender my HGV. Licence, due to what was termed as a mild focal seizure. My personal feelings are it was more related to stress than anything else.but I suppose the Medics know best, But it took me 18 months to get my car licence back, due to the total in bloody ineptitude of those t—ts at theDVLA Swansea. All the best mate Drive Safely .Alec
