My letter to roadchef

a colleague of mine has asked me to contact you regarding sanbach services (northbound) on wednesday 3-3-10 at around 5pm. he stopped to park overnight, he paid his money, then went for a meal, and then wanted to get a warm shower before going to bed. after ■■■■■■■■■■, he found to his disapointment that the shower was running cold, and with only a dribble of water coming out, therefore he had to have a was in the sink.
he pointed out the problem with a member of staff, who called the duty manager. a discussion took place, the duty manager said she was aware of the problem, so my colleague asked why there was no out of order sign. she said “why should i, it’s YOU lorry drivers that keep breaking the showers”.
after paying a high premium to park up, then pay for over priced food, the least a driver should expect, is a shower.
i would like to point out that motorway service areas have a duty to supply showers for hgv drivers. wear and tear is a natural occurance, so it is rather annoying to think that your staff blame hgv drivers for faulty plumbing. your manager was aware of the problem, but decided it wasn’t a priority because we drive trucks.

I never realised that.

there are a few rules that they have to stick to. like supplying hot and cold food up to 10pm, toilets, showers, and other stuff.

Off subject[roadchef]anybody had this experiance i had on thurrock services about 10yrs ago. Before I had a meal i decided to have a shower. The park was full down one side with willi betz trucks. On reaching the showers i found 4 foriegn drivers doing their laundry in the showers, needless to say i walked out as the showers were flooded and black in colour. On mentioning this to a member of staff i was answered with shrugged shoulders, would have liked to know if they payed the parking fee as they were there days sometimes.
regards dave.

Hi Blissy, please take it easy on Phil mate, cos it seems he’s developed twitchy typing fingers whilst suggesting that somebody sticks to some rules.

Without me commenting one way or the other, [[ :sunglasses: ]] Phil has simply pointed out that there were some rules that aren’t being followed.

Maybe you shouldn’t be quite such a stickler for rules Phil. </tongue-in-cheek mode>  :grimacing:

Going back to the OP, yes Phil, it’s awful when you can’t get a shower after a day’s work, and I’d agree that the MSAs need to be taken to task when their standards fall below what’s acceptable. After all, this is the 21st century, so a decent shower in a UK MSA shouldn’t be too much to ask for.

I hope you get a realistic response to your letter.

what i find very annoying is. you pay £20+ to park. you can get a [zb]ing b+b for less. bed, breakfast, and a shower.

what do we get? [zb] all.

A few months back I complained to all the service area operators about the conditions of the showers and in fairness Roadchef were the only one to phone me up and discuss the problems think he was quite high up in the company but I do forget his name, never even got an acknowledgment off the others.
Hopefully you might get somewhere.
