I have noticed that there seems to be a new trend of lorries pulling into the entrance of a segregated lay-by & sitting there with their hazards on, I personally think this is selfish & can cause an issue for someone who for whatever reason may need to use it, can the driver be charged with obstruction or maybe even endangering other road users?

More often than not, its a driver on break and the layby was full when he got there.

+1
+2 the driver ain’t going to block the layby for fun is he .
If it’s full when he gets there then drive on and find another one. If he’s that short of time he should plan his day better.
Taking a break half in half out of a layby is something Dovenbeck specialise in. Aswell as ■■■■■■■■ under their trailers.
I reckon it’s quite sensible really as it saves an approaching driver who is looking for a layby from slowing down and entering a layby only to find it is full and then having to drive through and emerge slowly into potentially fast moving traffic.
I do concede though that once a space becomes available the guy blocking the entrance should really move into that space. If she/he then needs to restart their break then so be it.

Its one of those times when you pull in put your tacho on break and after 10 minutes everybody else moves off,and if you pull along the lay-by you have to start your break again, especially if its a 45 break needed
Nothing selfish about it
What a ridiculous thread.

To be fair in that scenario, so long as you’re not bang on 4.30, wait till you’ve clocked 15 mins up, move into the proper parking slot and have a 30 min break
There’s definitely logic in waiting for a space blocking the layby and it’s very professional to pull to the front of the layby and restart a break.
Course one could come unstuck if an emergency occurs or if some numpties thinks it’s a queue and blocks a bit of the carriageway.
The amount of times I’ve approached a layby thinking there’s not enough room then gone past seeing there’s enough room to land a jumbo jet is countless.
Perhaps I’m just bad at spotting gaps.

Totally agree’ and with these new Tacho’s , you can move a short distance and still retain your rest.

But at least if he craps under his trailer half in half out the layby, then you’re less likely to tread in it
Thought this would be a thread about car drivers that manage to take up an entire layby with a Passat.
A.
I never understand why anyone would use a lay-by anyway.
Truck sways around like a boat, noisy, and there is always the chance of someone piling in to you :-/

And better than ■■■■■■■■ in the cab…mind you, the state of some drivers if joe public saw one with trousers down under a trailer could be mentally scarred for life…

If drivers can’t find a toilet at a services they shouldn’t be trusted with a truck. I’ve been driving for over 15 years and never needed to crap in bushes, laybys etc. Saw a Wincanton driver walking towards bushes with a bog roll in a layby near Raf Croughton yesterday…Just a mile away from Cherwell Valley services.

Getting caught in traffic and being unable to make your planned stop, as happened to me last week on the A1.
I don’t use them any other time, still sleep fine though, it’s more of a pain stopping the kettle falling over when making the morning brew.

Less than a full minute driving…no probs.
