Over £34,000 pa,

plenty of graft,
not much sitting around doing nothing.

Do jobs like this exist, or am I wasting my time looking??

Yes they do, but vacancies are never advertised, you won’t usually find them in general haulage or logistics mobs, often specialists carriers eg tanks, cars, often own product, increasingly rare so jealously guarded by those lucky enough.
Jobs are usually filled by recommendation or by calling cold and selling yourself to the man, the second route is still surpisingly effective.
Some here don’t like the idea of recommendations and refer to it as elitist, assuming that the old pals act comes into play…true in that you are hardly likely to recommend a sworn enemy, but similarly no one with an ounce of sense would recommend someone useless however good a friend they were.
This recommendation system works for the staff and the company, both parties want to see the operation profitable and ongoing.
I’m not far off that, add nights out and I’m well over it, all totally legal as well with no grey areas and good tackle. Only trouble is I don’t get much time at home and when I do get home, I’m too tired to do much! We have a steady turn over of drivers lol
That kind of money is out there, its just how much you want to do and how much of a social life you dont want in order to earn it
My social and family life is pretty much non existent. likewise when I get home I’m shattered from sitting doing nothing all day, I get 3 hours with kids then its bed time again. I don’t mind this as if we want the money then sacrifices must be made. I would just like to be doing something instead of sitting in rdc all day. I would also like to think I could progress, so that eventually I will get some quality time with the family.
plenty of jobs like that as long as you’re willing to graft, and able to think for yourself.
but a lot of drivers won’t get it because they are lazy, moaning, need their hand holding ■■■■.
LOL, yea, drivers do look opened mouthed when I say I hate sitting about at rdc. I can’t do it, I like to be grafting. I don’t mind driving, as long as when I get there I can get out and do something to keep me occupied. all I do is drive, get out open doors then sit and wait. can’t do that for the next 40 years.
Car transporters then, if you want hard work you’ll have it in spades, but long hours of flat out work and you’ll get filthy and get the odd clout and bruise now and again, slip and fall and its going to be very painfull, but getting on the right job (which you won’t do till you’re fully experienced unless very lucky, roughly 5 years) means good money.
Going to be a serious shortage of car transporter drivers in a few years, look and see how many older blokes there are, lots of drivers think they can do it but its not for everyone, not comparable with any other driving job, very few youngsters coming through, too much like hard work for most and those who can’t drive a truck properly are soon out.
If you want good money but less hours then all you can do is specialise in something, eg tanks.
I applied on numerous occasions to car transporter company local to me, but as I have no experience with transporters they politely told me to stop bothering them.
shame really as I am pretty quick at picking things up and work hard. Their loss I guess.
I would like to know where I get the experience though lol
Try Paragon Northants or Autologic Doncaster, the formers pay scheme for new starters is just about the industry’s worse but if you want to crack this industry you’ve got to try somewhere.
Edit…Paragons head office is at Thurleigh, don’t know where recruiting is handled now.

Try Autologic I had an interview with them last year and I’ve no experience of transprters, as it happened didn’t eventually attend interview as it meant being away all week.
Hmmm, Autologic, heard a rumour that they were in talks with the green giants about being taken over. just a rumour of course
Do you have any clue on what they pay?

Autologic pay is very complicated (poor basic), suffice to say that if you work hard once up to speed you will comfortably earn a minimum of £35k, the best paid who work damned hard (and get good work) for it are over £45k, well over in some cases…not including N/O money which should never be included in pay and i despair when people do include it…this is not for 10 hour days this is for hard hours.
Parking paid (accounts at MSA’s now i believe), average holiday pay, medicals re-imbursed etc.
Be prepared to be away all week, remember you are in cut down cabs (usually low cabbed Scani’s or FM’s), this is not a glory boys job, its hard graft all the way but can pay well if you can graft.
Autologic probably the best training in the industry.
Be interesting to see what happens to the pay for new starters if Stobbs get on the act.

It will go down of course.

Lol…
Considered plant hire business??
You want graft, not sitting about?
You get there, load/unload and go…
Keeps me busy/active just nicely. In the years I’ve done it, I’ve not gained weight, become ‘unhealthy’.
Yea, looked at it, would suit me down to a t. just doesnt pay enough unfortunately

This is the reason I resigned from Tesco, much to the disbelief of everyone there ! I was told I was the first driver to quit Tesco’s, and I don’t mean a contractor like Wincanton or Stobbies, I was a full time Tesco employed driver on very good pay with the best benefits etc that anyone in the UK could imagine. It was so boring and easy I just couldn’t stand it, I quit and got a job driving show / events / motorsport trucks, driving was only a tiny part of the job, errecting shows, displays and hospitality units and enjoying different places for weeks at a time and … actually the pay was far higher as it happens, I just had to work for it.
.
The realistic choice to meet that criterea would be between a local multi drop job in which you tell the guvnor the more drops he can put on your wagon the better so long as he pays you a good rate for the job.
Or working as an owner driver on sub contract long distance, but full loads only, european general haulage with a tilt in which case you’d have to compromise on the money.
No guess which of those two that I’d choose.
