My hiab work pain in the

hi there started hiab work for builder merchants about 6 months ago, vehicle is regulary overloaded(today i had almost about 13 tons, driving renault prmium 220 dci 18 tonns gross) and the deliveries are crazy, roads with 6 foot width restrictions, vehicle is shaking badly when braking they said its front tyres cos one is new other not,and place is owned and full of indians talking mambo jambo all the time with some praying songs at 6.45am!!! decided to do c+e after summer and start long journeys if im lucky.absolutely fed up,gonna do c+e deffo, any others hiabs here c u on the road

if you get pulled, it could affect you when you want to get onto class one work.
are there any regular checkpoints near you?
wait until you’ve got a start with another firm, then run it into the checkpoint, and say “it’s all yours”.

You are the driver and responsible for the vehicle/load, if in you opinion it’s overloaded dont take it out. There’s not a lot you can do about 6ft roads, that comes with the territory of the job you’re doing. If you dont think it’s safe to take the vehicle on a particular road, dont do it. Get the customer to meet you with a smaller vehicle, if not take the goods back to the yard. As for the vehicle ‘shaking’, VOR the vehicle until it’s sorted. You are the driver, your licence, your life and the lives of others.

Tiger.

C+E is about £900+, as for the phone■■? if they want the customer called then they provide the phone and pay the bill simple.
if you think the vehicle is over loaded then DONT take it out, its your licence on the line, will they pay the fine (probably not)

you can get roughly 8 ton of load on an 18t hiab vehicle but that depends on the vehicle and hiab makes. is there a weighbridge near to you that you could drop onto when your empty■■?

not really mate no weightbridge i know about, but will try to have a look…900 quit for adding trailer to class two thats bit more than i thought but still not too bad

if you can give us an idea of your area we might be able to help with the weighbridge, just remember dont use a broker to get your C+E there are plenty of recommended trainers about some even post on here :stuck_out_tongue:

think there may be one round me will check tomorrow

Your lorry should by law have a weight plate fitted! It will have your lorries unladen weight and your MAM! If you subtract the Lorrys unladen weight from the MAM that will give you your load max weight!
As for holiday pay etc! You should be getting 28 days a year holiday including bank holidays! And refuse to drive your lorry if overweight unless it is to a local weighbridge! Don’t get nicked overloaded! As if you have a conviction for this it is not favourable with the TCs!

Do they supply hard hats with chinstraps?

I would say any load over 10t would see you into territory of having the book thrown at you if caught. As it’s restricted licence work you might find the company says some BS like ‘we’re not transport professionals and rely on our qualified drivers to load their vehicles legally’

All plates should be made to include vehicle tare weight in my view. The only places that reliably seem to mark it on vehicles are hire co’s.

hard hats yes but no need to use chains always use normal straps to secure load like packs of bricks etc
there is a plate with vosa logo will double check asap

Totally agree!

Any driver that doesn’t know - roughly - the payload of his lorry? Cobblers :unamused: :unamused:

If you’re overloaded, you ask on here about it?? You have the hiab - take control and unload the bloody thing!

Kemaro’s deranged brother methinks…
