So applied for a temp job collecting and delivering vehicles with QS Recruitment in Burton for a company in Leicestershire on Tuesday.
Got home and got chased for some final bits of paperwork and then call soon afterwards to say you can start on Wednesday the next day at 0730.
So the first job to drop off a Ford Fiesta to Arnold Clark in West Brom…yes really!!
Then off to Queensferry and given a dumper truck to take back to Coventry (64 plate with 17k miles only) …so zero experience of driving a split shift 8 speed manual gearbox (passed in an auto) and there you go pal here are your keys

So Red lined it a few times up to fourth gear without getting far, got confused when starting off in traffic but then managed to travel the 120 odd miles without much of a hitch until leaving the motorway, some sweat but managed to get it dropped off…
Then it was a a simple 7.5t back to base!!
Next day must have had 5 different vehicles to drive including an obscure looking Scottish Power truck with the 8 speed box (much improved), a couple of 18T and a few 7.5t…
,
Figured out the 8 speed box…start at first jump to third, flick the switch then move to 6>7>8…happy days
All in all a good two days and valuable experience as who would hand over keys to someone who passed their Class C just a month ago…money just short of £11 ph so should not complain.
That job will soon get you upto speed getting to drive all different wagons with different boxes, I like the sound of it to be honest.
Best of luck
Sounds good that mate how do you get from job to job someone give you a lift?
They are really good…you get a chaser that’s a man in a Merc Vito who moves you around…was lucky for my last two days as really no waiting for him as he darts between the potential 7 drivers in the minibus. However one of the lads had to walk a mile to the next location and then another 2 miles back to the yard.
Yesterday was easy as it was Manhiem Coventry to Manhiem Shepshed 4 times!!
They did say there may be occasional train/tube/bus journeys but the company usually leave this for their permanent guys…
Long day mind you and doubt you could do this full time…for me 2-3 days a week will be fine.
Sounds like a good varied job without any real donkey work, nice one pal!
All good but then it went quite after Monday …
However on day 3 got to drive a brand new truck with only 20 miles on the clock for over 60 miles…talk about no pressure!!
By the way any good agencies that you can recommend in Leicester??

Now you asking…Picked it up from a place in Oldbury where they attach the body and curtains.
Dropped it off at Ford & Slater in Leicester (DAF Main Dealer) where he mentioned that once the drivers get hold of them they don’t look shiny or kept anymore!!
That’s true they have a tough life doing what we do
