Hi all,
Well yesterday was my first driving job so here is a breif account of it.
Got to the warehouse at 9am all keen and eager wandered round for a bit trying to find someone to tell me where i should be, i got told to go and see a bloke at the other end of the warehouse and he will sort me out. Found the bloke in question and told him who I was, his reply was along the lines of
" take your pick of the the 2 motors outside, im not bothered either way ", This is going to be fun i thought !!!
Realising I had no tacho disks, i phoned the agency, " Oh yeah we forgot to give them to you, there is a guy on the way ". So i got myself in to the vehicle and then started to panic .
A little later a guy from another agency turned up with the tachodiscs for me. As i have always been taught "There is no such thing as a bone question if you don’t know the answer ". So I asked a few questions to which he replied " you have never been out on your own have you " at this point he asked me if i had had an assessment with the ageny i was with to which i said no !!! He was then straight on the phone to his boss, " sorry mate, we cant let you take this out as it is not fair on you, we are getting another driver in " . At this point i was devastated He then turned round and said come over to our office for a brew and we can get you signed up with us, then we can get you out today with the other driver as the assesor. At this point i was a happy little bunny
So after half an hour it was back to the yard to meet the other driver, absouloutley brilliant guy called Ralph, put me at ease staright away !! ten minutes after that we were on the road.
From Trowbridge up the A350 to J17 on the M4, everything was going great. Then on to the M25 off at the A1M and up to the sunshine place known as Welwyn Garden City. Once there we found our destination , the Argos warehouse, I booked in the load, and the guy said " Right mate, bay 2 please " , it was at this point the panic set in again, my first ever drop and i end up with a blindside reverse on to the bay However 10 minutes and 6 shunts later the trailer was on the bay…IT WAS THE BEST FEELING EVER !
Unfortunatley it then took the nice people at the ware house nearly 3 hours to unload the trailer Once this was done, we were back on the road and on the way back to Trowbridge.
Finally got home at half ten last night feeling very pleased with myself if some what tired. Got a phone call this morning and am now doing a midnight run to Darlington on Friday
Sorry its a long post
