My first day out - including things not to do!

Today was my first ever shift driving for a cash and carry doing store deliveries. Handball galore but it was only 7 pallets in total - think the agency mustve told them it was my first day  I had one of the C+C guys with me who take care of the paperwork and help unload (thankfully!)

Top tips in hindsight -

make sure you are fully aware of all the basic controls before setting off (i couldnt find my main beams again even though id checked them in the morning!)

read road signs - a few times i went to go down road that i know but didnt realise they have weight limits and had to choose another route

remember to move your hand of the floor of the truck before slamming the roller door shut (yep, i forgot… trip to the pharmacy and tacho on break! my hand is nice and chunky now!)

take it slow, steady and easy - i left about half 8 and was back about half 3 - my deliveries didnt have time slots so wasnt rushing, just getting used to everything.

well done, hope your hand is ok.

i am sure there are more things not to do which you would learn soon (as well as myself  )

what is C+C though?

got some ice on it now - felt like a total muppet when i did it!!

C+C - cash and carry (was just being lazy)

im sure there will be lots more ill learn! felt good to be out of a training environment and seeing things for real where i had to make the decision rather than having an instructor telling me what to do

this was my tightest reverse of the day - fortunately the phonebox isnt there anymore but i needed to turn round a tight bend in the car park behind the building

Always give the fuel card back, particularly when the depot is 40 miles from you house and the company has a no posting of fuel cards policy…
