Great pics beshfanta,
Did Falcongate have a place on the wirral, near the tunnels, seem to remember seeing them at a place there a fair few years ago… ?

Great photo’s beshfanta, always like the 2800/3300 of falcongate, I was just wondering, were any of the others there mentioned in dispatches, the Sed Ak, and a nice maroon and red Volvo, anyone remember these guys.

Brilliant pics , I used to drive the daf 95 with the hanging garment trailer from around to 99. mainly Romania .

Just found this thread and thought it may be worth a bump. Some great pics on the site link. This is one of them.

Out of interest, can any of you old M/E spill any info about the pic above? The ferry is called Island Mariner. Where abouts (country) are the trucks parked parked?..coming from and going to??

Cheers, bullitt.

They did, if you come off the M53 heading towards the docks, after the flyover crosses the motorway you pass a Toyota dealer on the left, after that there’s a gate & wire fence (about 200m before the roundabout) with small industrial units, that was Falcongate’s yard.

Ross.

The ship seems to have been taken out of use but its last sighting was in Greece and it was a regular in Piraeus.

It has to be one of those, both showing Piraeus

Could it not be Volos and they are waiting for the Syria ferry.

Hullo Malc,
I should say that whoever mentioned the Island Mariner was either Loading or Unloading at the ship,or knew someone on board the Ship. As niether of these ships carry Trucks, the first one is a traditional Cargo / Passenger (12) vessel, the second is an all acommodation aft Dry or Bulk Cargo Ship. As you can see that there is only hatches and derecks on the first and Tin Top Roller hatches and cranes on the second. Niether of these Ships were equiped to load or carry Trucks and Trailers. As you can see there are no loading doors of any description visible. I was fortunate enough to sail on both of these types of Ship, or perhaps unfortunate enough. During my yearsat Sea. I can only suggest that there was another Vessel at some time with the same name.
Cheers, Archie.

You are right Archie, I wasn’t suggesting that ship behind the lorries was a ferry, it looks more like the bottom one of my pictures, same shape, bridge aft and correct numbers of derricks.

I imagine the OP thought they were waiting for that particular vessel. It does look more like a bulk carrier

copyright them or someone will claim they took them.just a warning lads       it does happen

I have already mentioned the Ship in a just previous post. I think the Port maybe Koper although I am not too sure.
Yes Malc. I agree with you it certainly looks like the Ship in your bottom Photo.
Cheers, Archie.

A bit of a bump!

I drove for Falcongate in their final year as a Lynx/Ripponden Carriers parcel franchise!

I remember the transport manager telling me about a driver getting caught in the south of France for elaborately fiddling his tachos and the truck getting impounded by Marseille Police.

Rob, the owners son still works locally running an industrial hardware shop on the Dock Rd.

used to run with a few Falcongate drivers, but apparently the firm was a bit tight with running money, and would only pay the bare minimum expenses, or something like they had to pay, and claim it back when back at the depot, which is probably why many of them didn’t socialise, with us who had the nerve to cheat
I heard they also owned ships, can anyone verify that, and what happened to them.
