Music you may not have heard

I know I read/ heard something about her father (Ewan) not treating her or her mother well and I think he left the family for another woman. There again, this is my memory which is… ummm, thingy, what’s the word.

As Spardo has said it looks like Ewan was of Scots descent. and might have been ummm searching for words again…less than perfect husband material?

Kirsty was married to the record producer Steve Lillywight, who has worked with numerous artists from XTC to Talking Heads.
She appeared with her mate Sean Ryder on TOTP with backing vocals to Hallelujah, as well as her solo stuff and with McGowan..
Poor lass died in an accident whilst on location swimming, a boat hit her.

Speaking of Talking Heads…
Once in a Lifetime…the great David Byrne.

Solo…

I think she was hit by a millionaire’s speedboat in Mexico.
The boat owner was apparently not in charge of it but had let his handyman/gardener have a go…as you do…

A fine of a few hundred quid because the gardener was such a poor man, a few months in nick and the man came out to find his employer had held his job open.
I wonder if he got a pay-rise?

I was unaware of the circumstances..
Yep a tragic ‘being in wrong place at wrong time’ type accident.
The cynic in me wonders if the guy actually was in charge at the time, but took a knock for his employer, and a pay off …or is that what you were implying?

His employer obviously valued him whatever.

She was in a reserved diving area, she pushed her son out of the way, but was hit by a speeding boat.
She was in the right place!
(but I know what you mean by being in the wrong place)

Death

[edit]

In 2000, after she participated in the presentation of a radio programme for the BBC in Cuba,[19] MacColl took a holiday in Cozumel, Mexico, with her sons and her boyfriend, musician James Knight. On 18 December 2000, she and her sons went diving at the Chankanaab reef, part of the National Marine Park of Cozumel, in a designated diving area where watercraft were restricted from entering. With the group was a local veteran divemaster, Iván Díaz. As the group was surfacing from a dive, a powerboat moving at high speed entered the restricted area. MacColl saw the boat coming before her sons did. Louis, aged 13 at the time, was not in its path, but Jamie, then aged 15, was. She was able to push him out of the way (he sustained minor head and rib injuries), but she was struck by the powerboat, which ran over her. MacColl suffered severe chest and head injuries and died instantly.[20] MacColl’s body was repatriated to the United Kingdom and was cremated after a funeral service at Mortlake Crematorium in Kew.

Aftermath

[edit]

The powerboat involved in the collision was controlled by Guillermo González Nova, multimillionaire president of the Comercial Mexicana supermarket chain, who was on board with members of his family. The boat was owned by Carlos González Nova, brother of Guillermo and founder of Comercial Mexicana. An employee of Guillermo González Nova, boathand José Cen Yam, said he was in control of the boat at the time of the incident.[21][22] Eyewitnesses said that Cen Yam was not at the controls and that the boat was travelling much faster than the speed of one knot that González Nova said.

Cen Yam was found guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced to two years and ten months in prison. He was allowed under Mexican law to pay a punitive fine of 1,034 pesos (about €63, £61 or US$90) in lieu of the prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay approximately US$2,150 in restitution to MacColl’s family, an amount based on his wages. People who said they spoke to Cen Yam after the killing said he received money for taking the blame.[22][23]

There was a lot said at the time about the injustice, and the probable true culprit going free.

Yep same old same old.
When you have money you can basically buy anybody off, and get away with murder…sometimes literally.

Jesse Buckley sings Country Girl accompanied by Neill and Calum MacColl, sons of Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl, who were 1/2 brothers to Kirsty MacColl.

Kirsty MacColl died in a swimming accident as did Jeff Buckley son of Tim Buckley

Jeff Buckley’s 1994 version of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah reached no 2 in Christmas 2008, after a public campaign for his recording to reach no 1, in response to a rather cynical attempt by X factor to gain the peak spot for Alexandra Burke

Jesse Buckley’s father is an unrelated Tim Buckley

I’ve put all sorts of varied tracks on here in my eclectic taste in music from Sash, and Rui da Silva , to Marrilion and Blackfoot Sue. Pink Floyd to Roxy Music Status Quo.and Talking Heads.
I just know what I think is good and what I like, no particular genre…Rock, pop, soul.dance anything…I just love music.
So here’s another curveball…

David Essex, still not lost it at 77 years old, singing his track ‘Oh what a circus’ from ‘Evita’ the musical in which he appeared as Che Guevara .

Here’s the original track from David in 1978.
(He’s a bit like me …ridiculously good looking in his youth, aged a lot now,… but still looking good ..:joy:)
The guy just oozes self confidence.

You have heard these before, I posted then Last ANZAC Day and I’ll do so next year again.

Understanding the politics of the Vietnam conflict may put that one in better context.

We shall remember them.

I was just the right age in 1965 to find this a very powerful message, which is as true today as it was then. I grew up effectively with the Vietnam war on the TV nightly. I find it often quite emotional to hear this song.

After Whitlam pulled Australian Forces out, we thought this was the Vietnamese national anthem, as the refugees poured into Australia, from the north and south.

I went to sandakan where the girl saved the 6 aussies and saw her house. Apparently she would always visit australia on ANZAC day
