Just been working out that the firm I work for has 5 different makes of truck
DAF
MAN
Mercedes
Volvo
Scania
Does anyone else work at a firm with over 2 different makes
Yep, I do. We have
Iveco
Renault
Volvo
And Daf.
BRS ran just about every make under the sun (barring Graz, Tatra, Tata or Raba )
Presently have Mercedes,MAN, and DAF
Daf and MAN trucks, think there’s a Merc sprinter and a Renault van.
Really you only need Volvos. Boss trucks
Where I am have daf n man n Merc vans. Never understood why companies have a mixed fleet.
Stobarts had right idea just use same trucks Scania.
Easier for workshop to maintain.
easier for drivers as all same.
Office just have to deal with one manufacturer instead of having contact Volvo / man / Renault etc to book organise repairs etc
I worked fora mob who allowed individual driver input, as each drivers’ truck became due for renewal. This made for a mixed fleet of Kenworth and Western Star, with common specs.
We also had vocational, light tare trucks comprising of Sterling/Ford Louisville, Freightliner, Iveco and Kenworth, to cart 30+ tonne containers.
When bought out by a larger company, run by bean counters, fleet replacements were pov-pack Scania, MAN or Mercedes, depending on which was cheapest, in the month the order was placed.
‘Stobarts had right idea just use same trucks Scania.’
Stobarts had a mixed fleet, as well as Scania’s they had Man’s, Merc’s, Daf’s and Volvo’s.
I stand corrected.
I spent 10 years at a local company and they ran all the available makes at once. This was during the final days of ERF, and had those on the fleet too. There were even two Renault Magnums for a while.
Firm I work for now run only one make.
