Multi drop milk info

Just wondering if anyone here has any info on the sort of start and finish times when doing milk? I understand it’s usually very early start - but just wondered how long a typical day would be on someone such as wisemans?

Collections?

Trunking? Bulk tank or packaged?

Deliveries to shops?

All very different: and collections are Domestic rather than EU Hours.

In our place the distribution guys generally start late afternoon / early evening, depending on where they are going. Most of the big deliveries go out overnight to be there for the morning.

As for collections, they CAN be domestic, but some places run to EU regs. And only farm collections at that, bulk/reload tanks are EU regs and can’t be done on domestic. Contracted 9 hour day, normally 3-5hours OT/week… more if things go ■■■■ up, weather, accidents, etc.

When I did shop deliveries for Unigate / Dairy Crest in Coventry Depot that was, first man in was 12.30am and the last was around 03.30 finished by 12 ish midday

Ok, thanks all for the info!

depending on what is on offer
4 12 hr day shifts vary from mon-thurs or weds-sat or mon ,tue, fri &sat .shifts can start from midnight onwasrds for 4 days. while 5 days usually 03.30 onwards
5 day shifts vary from mon-fri ,tues- sat or days that flow over weekend.
not sure about nights as think its only trunking but i think they trunk out off Manchester.
Over 39hrs is time & half anything worked from18.00 - 04.00 a little extra unsociable hrs
sat time &half all day
sun is double time all day. and any b/holiday worked is effectively treble time.
I enjoy the job but each to their own
hope this helps.

5 days is worked out on approx 9-10 hours but your paid by the clock

Part of my nightly load consists of up to eight trolleys of milk and I absolutely detest the bloody things. If trailer is not completely level, when you start to roll one off the other seven try to make a break for freedom.
We have one driver who cable ties them in blocks of four then shrink wraps them, seems to work but I can’t be arsed with all that fiddling about.

we do shop deliveries at our place and we generally start between 3am to 5am just depends on the day. monday wednesday and friday the busy days which can be long hand hard.

worst thing about it is when a trolley goes over the mess is horrendous.

Yeah I have taken receipt of the things before now. It does create a mess!

I did nights for Arla, a fridge trailer with cages of milk.
Empty cages to collect at each super market, if the driver did not collect them, the night before, you end up getting what’s left over, plus the ones for your shift.
Some stores had a scissor lift, to place many cages on, to speed it up.
If not, use the tail lift, which is longer.
Some managers at the stores were ok, some could be rude.
Most yards were small to turn around with all their junk.
