A noob question…I’ve been using a digi card for multi drop work. I just wonder why the symbol automatically changes to rest when I switch the engine off (which is up to 30 times a day), rather than other work which would be more helpful.

your truck must be new there did it cos some other countries were forgetting to change the mode switch to rest you can get it reprogrammed to say on other work, ask you TM there do it at a tachograph calibration centre
