If you went out for dinner and it was cold, would you keep your hat and coat on while you were at the table? So why does anyone need to keep their outside coat on in a warm cab. The hi viz is so other drivers can see you in the depots, not while sat behind the wheel saying, “look at me, look at me”
The only place you should be getting grease is on your gloves if you are a mucky sod, not half way up your back or in your hair.
yorkshire terrier:
we had an agy driver in at our place this week and he turned up with a yellow hi vis jacket on and there was more greese on it than on my fifth wheel.
he then jumped in one of our units and drove out of yard in it i saw him on motorway and he still had it on, why? cabs have heaters…
next day lad come back and his unit was in a disgusting state,i cant belive that these guys have such a lack of respect for anothers work/living space and its contents…
Our H&S officer pulls our drivers up if they are not wearing their Hi-vis in or out of the cab. If caught a 2nd time DISPLINED.

I got rear ended of a lorry last year while sitting at lights. Phoned depot to report it and they asked where you wearing the correct PPE boots and hi-viz. I said if i was wearing the high-viz would the lorry have seen me then
They must think a high-viz is sort of magical shield
We do mostly site work and i’m out all week in a flat roof fh. But I do change my clothes everyday and if it’s a very muddy site I put papers down in the footwell.
Some of the other drivers you see down the road in there super big hi roof trotters look like tramps!!! WHY■■? Chuffin Mingers!!! There is NO excuse for it most services have showers or even sinks to wash in. All it takes is a bit of effort…
There are some where I work who never seem to wash thier jackets. the strange thing is they aren’t scruffy people otherwise they just don’t seem to realise that you can wash them.
Because of the winter I wear the same work trousers all week. No point washing 5 dirty pairs a week when all you need to wash is 1, is there? My hi vis has more grease on it that yellow, my cab was at some point white, it’s now black yet it is the cleanest freshest smelling truck on the inside, out of all of them in the depot
I’m surprised that some of you wear the same trousers all week, especially in cases where you do it because you get really dirty on day one, now you may all be nice & clean underneath, but a week in the same trollies, all that bollock sweat & ■■■■■ must leave a trace of something unhygenic surely the excuse about washing doesn’t count, I do my own laundry, often when I’m on the road so I don’t have to ■■■■ around on my days off, and it doesn’t take much to throw a few pairs of jeans/trousers in & out of the washer & dryer
Somebody mentioned the lack of washing/shower facilities & that it isn’t a reason to be minging, ■■■■ right it ain’t, You can get a decent wash inside the cab with a litre bottle of water that’s been near the night heater outlet, a bar/bottle of soap & a sponge, failing that wet wipes will do in an emergency, there is no excuse to be dirty at all

You can get 4 days out of a pair of socks and skiddies, normal, back to front, inside out, normal but inside out, that means you only need 2 pairs of each, on the 8th day you bang the first pair against the window and start over again

I never said anything about skiddies, just trousers
Puzzled by the socks though, how do you wear them back to front, surely that’s going to hurt yeah I know, dont call you surely

With hi vis on while driving there will be reflection in the windscreen and I don’t think that is very safe. I would argue toss about disciplinary for hi vis in cab!
Following on from that I was in Morrison’s and there were two chaps in there in jackets with Hi Viz over the top displaying the name of their employer. Surely if you are get some food either before or after a shift then you dump your jacket etc in the car and do the shopping. Wasn’t even a wet day and quite mild.
To Grayam and others involved in site deliveries etc y not keep your boots on the step? That way all the crap stays outside the cab, you soon get used to it, and the strange looks you may get. Its standard practice in nordic countries, same applies when entering an office etc. I drive in only socks but others have trainers or even bedroom slippers to drive in and move about the cab in.

I take my shoes off as I get in & they go down the side of my seat, it’s a PITA when one falls out & I have to hop around to get it back

See where your coming from but for me it’s not practical as I may have to get in and out the several times to move the truck operate the pto etc so I keep em on

Gotta admit I find this quite funny and a bit of a pat on the back
I’m an agency driver, mostly rdc work or shops, I don’t leave anything in the cab other than a little bit of unavoidable mud in the footwell and sometimes the lid off my flask (somehow manage to get that back each time though) If it smells like the usual driver smokes in the cab then so do I but if not I avoid it. I often find myself cleaning the mirrors, steering wheel, dash etc and fixing broken screen washer jets etc(boredom’s a terrible thing).
My hi-viz jacket’s not especially clean but it’s not bad and my hi-viz vest’s usually nearly immaculate, go easy on agency drivers - some of us are good drivers but are struggling to find a full time job in the current economic climate (better than sponging off the dole) some just preffer to work as and when they want too.
newmercman: I’ve seen a character similar to the one mentioned, he had a 4 series topline & it had never had a cloth over the dash, the windows were never cleaned & it only got washed on the outside when it rained, the bloke looked like he had been working on an oil rig (as a drilling pipe) back at the yard he took all his work clothes off, put on a clean tracksuit & trainers, put his work clothes in the boot of his car & went home, WTF? He obviously had standards, his car was immaculate, he just never gave a toss about the lorry he was given to drive
do you know globby 480 aswell
on a serious note it bugs me drivers that have no pride for any 1 else’s property
scruffy ■■■■■ !!! as some 1 has said how hard is it to av a wash an ut clean clothes on, an also how hard is it to giv the dash a quick polish, an the wagon a quick swill ?
