MRCT v Jack Richards

Hi folks, thinking about applying for a four on four off job with MRCT. Can anyone give me a heads up on wages, what they are like to work for etc? Also concicidering Jack Richards, any details on both of these would be good?

Jack richards , not the best pay but nice kit

Try ringing the other co up and asking them what they pay.

MRCT not the best payers either but it’s easy fridge work so both equal to me.

If given the choice I’d work for mrct. have you tried bomfords for 4 on 4 off.

Would have thought it wold be the ones easiest to get to if it’s day work, unless the other pays so much better it’s worth the extra fuel and commuting time?

It was a while back when i worked for Richards as a 21 year old when Anthony and Phil were at the helm and to this day it was the best employed job i ever had. They were a lot smaller then only having the yard at Fakenham but was always treated fairly and was never hounded, just did the job and was left alone to get on with it…

Some short days on MRCT (8hrs) and you won’t be 3 nights out either.

Also, a couple of the managers/planners are deeply unpleasant, particularly at Flixton.

Every MRCT driver I’ve ever seen has looked really happy.

So there’s that. (Probably not every one, but I saw one once, he looked like he’d just got his snake vacuumed)

There are drivers and fitters who have been at MRCT for 20 years and over . I suppose they have their grumbles like all companies but you don’t stay that long if it’s that bad

Good greif that was some time ago. Totally agree about Phil, he was running Derek Coopers Norwich operation when I was subbing to them, brilliant bloke  .

I think they’ve changed a bit, but My brother done some agency for them a few years ago, and he said they seemed alright

I did a bit of agency for them, thought they were ok, work was straight forward, and not to many procedures and form filling. But a mate of mine went there full time and lasted 2 weeks, not a work shy type either.

I also work for Phil when we were subbying to Medlers, good bloke.

I have done plenty of limping, as you call it, with MRCT in Willand. It’s a clean and easy job, good wagons. Even the really old MAN’s there have been looked after. The pay, I hear, is not good. Some nights away. Not pestered all day long.

I enquired about a job at Willand a couple of years ago as I wanted 4 x 4 shifts but the money was not too appealing, also no guarantee of nighting out all week which also put me off as I would of been traveling from Bristol, but all that aside it sounded ok.

Hello there, I work as a temp back up agency driver for MRCT and I can comfortably say they are a very good, no nonsense company to work for. Very sharp and they look after their drivers. I have worked in some dirty heavy mucky jobs before and general haulage and curtain siders, but the MRCT fridge work is a breeze in comparison. Good management, good planning, good Wagons well maintained and always ready to fix em if the rare occurence of a problem with a wagon happens. Just how a Transport company should be in my opinion. I work out of the Scunthorpe Branch. A great bunch of guys in scunthorpe, hard workers, and they do very well and I must say I am impressed.

Gotta take fridge work over all that messing about strapping/unstrapping loads. I’m now on fridge work (open door’s, take load bars out, job done, I would never go back to messing about with curtainsiders.

Too right. Done 2 and 1/2 years on fridges now. Quite happily never pull another curtain sider or flat again.

MRCT at holmewood pay about 9.50 flat rate. If you’re a 4on4off driver I think you get time and a third if you do a 5th shift. I’ve only worked for them through agency. Most of the tackle is shagged but I don’t think they have trackers and they don’t rush you. Steady number and pretty safe as they’re owned by 2sisters who own a hell of a lot of the factories MRCT pull for

I’m good like that!
