Yes your right I do wake up and go to catering, 3 times a day lol but only when the work is done.
I have just come off a 45 hour break and am now off the rod Stewart tour and doing general event work until my next gig which could be anything at this time of year.
I am sat at lymm at the moment, just wired up my fancy new mifi device to my iPad and catching up on the day which was a ■■■■ up to be honest, bit of a long one but here we go
My 45 hour break was up at 11 pm and I hadn’t heard anything so got some sleep the night before and went shopping, eventually got the call to move out after moving a trailer back into the car park, and I had to get from Norwich to Nottingham to get a fresh trailer and load out of Melton Mowbray for 9am simples.
Unfortunately another driver phoned me an hour after bed so I was up, then production arrived and started having there party next door so 3 hours sleep for me.
I go to move the trailer from out the front of the stadium were there is a complete closed road systems, and out of the entire mile or so of free road , 4 contractors had parked in front and alongside the trailer,
Oh well that ain’t moving, on my way I go,
I get stuck behind captain sensible all the way and it’s single track most of it so I lost god knows how many hours and eventually got back to base and due a break so I get a shower in to find out I didn’t put it on break so I have to wait around for another 45 , not happy now.
Anyway on my way to Melton my sat nav breaks I have lost all visuals. And my map is not the sort you can glance at whilst driving so I’m running on instinct and 3 road closures see to it that I am running incredibly late now. Even so I arrive at 9:30 am to be told, " oh we weren’t expecting you til 12"
There goes more time, fair play to the guys they worked there nuts off to get me out and straight back into diversions and road closures.
I am meant to be taking this load to Edinburgh but am getting hopelessly lost trying to find the a1 around all the closures so I make the decision to hit the 69 and m6 and go the way I know by heart.
On the way I stop off to buy " a cheap" sat nav with what little money I have, the cheapest is 80 quid. And for a car. It gets better as smiths have only huge great ■■■■■■ atlas maps. No good to me, anyway off we go again, might swell stick to the m6 now. Unfortunately I could only get as far as lymm before both driving time and WTD run out . This has messed me up for 2 days now as I could of got most of the way there without the problems and be free to stay or ship out of edinburgh.
Instead I am going to have to boot myself out of bed early and burn most of my days driving getting to Edinburgh. Were I hope they have a team to unload and don’t keep me waiting otherwise that will be a full day 2 wasted.
I can justify the decision to hit m6 to myself. But I’m not sure the bosses would see it that way. It’s just I’m still new to this and when you loose your failsafe such as a sat nav and decent map and the cards are all stacking up against you , what do you do, in retrospect I should have phoned another driver, but even that is not easy when each side of your truck is foot printing soft verges.
All in a days work though I suppose.
As for pics of my truck I’m in a rental at the moment due to the excessive work that comes with summer. But I am in a White daf usually pulling a flat bed loaded with steels or a big KB branded box trailer. And not a big nice expensive new one either for obvious reason.
I will try get some pics up though
