Mp4 actros ride

I drive a rigid Actros and it was in for a service yesterday so was in one of our CF’s, I’d forgotten how smooth they are compared to the Actros but it was nice to get back to the air con and fridge today lol. One thing I found was getting the seat set up right helps a lot.

There is a fix for the harsh ride on the mp4.
I contacted mercedes at Milton Keynes, to ask if fitting cab airbags was viable, and eventually i got a reply, that was, before you go down the airbag route try fitting new springs to the front axle.
It turns out that they changed to mono springs to save weight from the mp3.
I have new springs fitted and i can confirm it make a significant difference.

I have an actros and its gutless and slight bumps and tea or juice can is all over the cab. It’s an OK motor but not that smooth on roads and the delay on roundabouts pulling out is a pain. But it’s a nice looking motor I think.

I worked in an MP4 for 4 months at the start of the year. Its probably the best cab I’ve ever lived in as a tramper. But that ride…?

Just my tuppence, but I put it down to the extra height. Back in the day the Ford Transcontinental was prone to the same thing. Swinging on its cab mounts enough to induce sea sickness and vertigo.

The MP4 has a whole extra step for climbing in and out. 4 instead of 3 and it took me the first month to get used to the extra height. Near broke me ankle 3 or 4 times stepping off one step higher than I thought I was.

That’s an interesting loading system, does the cradle weigh it as it gets filled ?

It’s bizarre but I’d never really considered the ride quality of my Actros until I read this, and actually yes, it is shocking when I think about it.

I keep my ■■■■ and lighter in the middle of the three slots to the right of the radio and I without thinking put my hands over them to stop them jumping out on certain sections of road that bitter experience has obviously taught me to act on.

Hey ho, three year old in January and due to be replaced, so we’ll see what comes next.

It’ll be whatever’s cheapest  I’m getting one on Friday as the 62 plate xf I have is going , this thread has filled me full of joy …NOT

I believe it does as I’ve always been right when weighing off.

^^^^^ absolutely spot on! The process has started now and they’re asking drivers for input to decide on what comes next. I’ve told them not to waste their time as we’ll get whatever the bean counters can get cheapest. Model A may return 2mpg more than model B, but if model B is £5 per week cheaper to rent then that’s what we’ll be having.

If I was a betting man Maost, I reckon you will end up with a Renault T range mate. Loads of your mob are running them.

I’ve had the misfortune of having to drive a few of these and apart from the horrendous ride the gearbox must be the worst box ever and they’re all the same it can’t make its mind up which gear it wants and your left in the middle of the road looking like someone who passed they’re test about 10 mins ago really embarrassing and frustrating
