Ok… So I’ve been driving these things for longer than I can remember but, nevertheless, I have a question…
Before I ask… I will state that, in my defence, driving South of the border is comparatively unusual as most of my driving is in the Highlands and Islands but — just occasionally, I venture down to The Place Ruled by The Great Buffoon (God help you!)…
So, anyway… Several of the Motorways are now big wide multi-lane affairs…what is the rule with HGVs? On a motorway, I can’t use the outside lane… is it still the single outside lane I’m barred from or what?

Unless otherwise stated you are not allowed in the outermost lane, even if it has 5,6,21…lanes [emoji106]

For arguments sake, that I’m travelling towards Hull on the M62 at the Lofthouse junction. That’s two lanes east and west over the M1 but everyone seems quite happy to overtake in lane2 of only 2 lanes, which makes it the outside lane.
Are we all breaking the rules?

No, the rule on the outside lanes applies to motorways with 3 or more lanes- so where it is only two lanes it is legal to use the outside lane - unless it is sign posted otherwise.

to be honest I hope she succeeds in her dream of independence, don’t get me wrong I love escosse as a country but, the latest figure I saw we would save 43 billion in subsidies… no brainer…

Surely it’s better to ask a question than stumble on blindly.
Of course Nite Owl. Always best to ask if not sure. Just always surprises me when a driver is not sure of basic highway code especially when it relates to LGVs.
