How tf has he not picked up on all (or even some) of this stuff himself over the years.
How? Quite elementary really; if he was portrayed as a cartoon in a comic the thought bubble above his head would be empty l

56/60 or 50 on a 100 mile run the time difference will hardly be noticed, considering you put your boot to floor and then come up to an RTA or a diversion any time booting it has gone. Sooner do 50 all day long than 56/60 for 20 mile and 30/40 for the next 20.
Many years ago I did a Scania driving course, and decided to put what I was told to the test, on the same run,60 on the 1st day and 50 on the 2nd and the time difference was a mere 9 minutes, simply by letting the engine torque do the work.I’ve had to do a night out 5 mins from the yard ( lay-by before garage at north muskham ) , lay-by just after exit for balderton , so those mere 9 mins would of got me home for the night , that why my foot was always not to the floor , it was through it ( not literally, but you get the jist )
As I say those 9 mins may mean nothing to you , but to me it was a cooked meal / my bed , not a lay-by , a pot noodle , can of lilt ( that bit was for rob )Maybe you should have done a bit of that ‘‘Forward planning’’ you were trying to teach me the other day doze.
Ring wife/mate/colleague/son/daughter or your bit on the side to meet you at said lay by at certain time, curtains across, get a lift home, eat yer steak dinner, bed at home and 10 and a half hours later, catch the lift back to the lay by (that you’ve arranged the night before.) so you ain’t stuck in a [zb] lay by 10 mins from home…and you get an extra 30 quid or whatever for your (dodgy) night out.![]()
Forward planning doze, forward planning.
The above rob was just after I’d got done by vosa , I couldn’t risk anything , so if it was 5 mins from the yard it was 5 mins , but in the end if I could get to goneryby moor services / colsterworth t/s she’d get me , we’d have to drop keys off at nwk , but I had to go there to get my car anyway , stibbington wasn’t worth it as to far for her
To be honest when I went to 4 days it seemed so much easier , maybe no Friday traffic

Hold it , nothing worse than feeling it dribbling down your leg & hated the feeling of wet boxers , I did in end get good at pulling down trousers & a large Costa coffee cup sorted it , though you had to be careful when you chucked it out window when windy !!

He’s already tried that and it cost him £700+ in Magistrates Court…
Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk
Actually £776 in fines , a caution off the t/c , a drive from Grantham - Carlisle magistrates court ( fuel ) & then when I renewed my lisense it got sent to eastern t/c office , so I had to have over a week off unpaid as no lisense
Think all told it cost me nigh on £2000
So no I just had to sit in lay-by , 5 mins from yard or not

Pity no one could be arsed to come and pick you up so you could enjoy a proper perfectly timed dodgy night out, hope you remember that.
Lost count of the number of those i’ve had, whether log booking back in the days when lorry drivers looked after each other, or getting someoneto meet you.
As Robroy mentions, preferably a pre planned lift back in the morn from one of your colleagues, assuming trustworthy.Thing is though,.afaik he’s been in this game for as long as (maybe longer) than us.
How tf has he not picked up on all (or even some) of this stuff himself over the years.
I’ve done what you speak of rob & worse , but I don’t think after getting done it would make sense to do anything in the slightest bit dodgy , even 5 yrs later it gets done 100 % by the book , I’m not sure the mrs would appreciate another trip to a magistrates court , she was less than impressed after the last one ( a understament to say the least ) & to be honest she’s 60 now so it is time I gave her a bit of peace & quiet
If I hadn’t got done I’d of not given it a 2 nd thought , I’d of been in yard 5 mins or not , but I just couldn’t / didn’t want to risk anything

What the ■■■■ are you on about , I’m not interested in going home for the night , then having to get back out of bed on a sat morning & having to drive the ■■■■■■■ lorry back to the yard for a few ££££
I wanted to just go home on a Friday night , be finished for the weekend , which is why I said those mins would make the difference
Though I doubt you understand that sentiment as your stupid enough to work weekends anyway ,I guess you see it all as a bonus , I bet the drive back to the yard would turn into a 15 hr shift
Thick or not , at least I’ve learnt there’s more to life than work !!!

In my own motor I often used to leave it at Charnock Richard MSA over the weekend to come back to load on the Monday (unofficial free parking in those days, and very little truck crime) maybe after a Fri night out in Park Hall nightclub across the field from the services
I would stand no longer than 5 minutes carrying a bag and holding out a tacho disc, before somebody picked me up,.sane story the following Monday on m.way junction.
I personally never went past a driver holding a tacho in those days, it’s just what you did.
I’m must be thick , but you’re saying get the mrs to drive from Grantham - north Muskam / drive me home to Grantham , then get up on sat & drive me back to north muskam for me to get the lorry , for what £25 in night out , I doubt she’d do it , and I’d not expect her too ,
The point being I stayed in those lay-bys as I darent risk doing anything dodgy as I’d only just been to court , I could not risk doing anything dodgy , the company wouldn’t risk it
Yes in the past I’ve done it all & more , the lorry has often been parked across the road from the house on a night ■■■■ me every time I went up down A1 I’d drop in my house for a shower / coffee / tea as it’s just off a1 ,
But the original post was about driving at 50 you only gain a few mins , well if those mins get me home on a Friday might ( and I mean home ) , not ■■■■■■■ about fetching lorry with mrs , then I’ll be foot to floor
It’s becoming more apparent that reading you and your mates post it’s not about going home for you , it’s the extra ££££££ ,
Rob after just being before 3 judges in a magistrates court , do you think it’s a good idea to them dump the truck on the a1 & ■■■■ off home , what could go wrong
There was a thread on here years ago about a driver , who if my memory is not failing me did just what your suggesting , he parked his lorry £ low loader near the house , and went home for night , done it loads of times ( money in pocket & in his bed ) , he went back to the lorry in the morning to find it gone , just think about it , if he had just 9 hrs of it could be anywhere
My recollection was he didn’t loose his job , but he left as he was I gues so embarrassed about what had hapoened
As I say I’ve done it , over road from house , but it’s a bloody risk , if anything happens , try explaining it away , what for a few £££££,s
Might be worth looking at doing your class 2, Dozy mate. I get a whisker shy of £40k for doing my basic 10 hours with the occasional longer shift now and then when I get stuck in traffic. I’ve never spent a night out and don’t even have a sleeper cab. I’m never more than an hour away from the yard so I can always turn around and get back when needed.

What do you mean ‘‘By the book’’?
What are you, or what would you. be doing that is illegal exactly snd/or not by the book?
Essentially you’re sounding like you’re coming out with the type of dog ■■■■ that you get from dayman…the ‘‘unpaid security guard’’ ■■■■■■■■.
From a legal point of view there is nothing to say that you need to stay in your truck on a night out.
From an employee’s point of view your daily rest is YOUR OWN time,.they can’t tell you how tf you have to spend it …, they employ you they don’t OWN you.
What do you think your night out money is for, it’s ’ Subsistence’’ if you want to put it towards a night out in a decent hotel, or spend it on a cheap B&B that is what it is technically for, ok not many do these days as much as they used to in the past, but nevertheless that is it’s intended purpose.
If they are going to continue your hourly rate through the night, and pay for your time fair do’s, but that ain’t gonna happen, so it is YOUR time to spend it how you want…end of.

As I’ve said, it ain’t your job to be a security guard, so no, he wouldn’t lose his job, he did nothing wrong.
Thing is doze if some cabbage in an office is going to plan me to what he thinks is the last second,.where my time is up as I drive back through yard gates, after chasing my arse to meet his ridiculous scheduled, well I ain’t playing.
■■■■ happens in this job, you get held up, they should make allowances in their planning.
For example I used to do a half day’s work before I picked up my trailer to do Devon/Cornwall, get down to say Stoke,.for a relatively stress free next 2 days getting all my drops off comfortably, te load run back in Sat am …3 abd a half day week.
Lately they have been giving me more on a Wed, this Wed’s job involved an 8 hour round trip, with 2 two hour hold ups,.I just went with it,.did not take breaks in queues did it by the book,.consequently I did not get back for my trailer, I am now running 4 to 5 hours late, and may not get all my drops off.
If I had teararsed through the day, got back for trailer,.and leaving with it,.I would be getting this ■■■■ every week…same as you running around to the point of getting back 10 mins from your yard.
Can’t speak for ‘‘my mates’’ but yeh if I can get an extra 30 quid spending money, (as that is what night out money is to me ‘spending money’ not wages) it’s no hard ship having the extra odd night away now and again, I only do 3 a week now anyway.
Same thing, if I rush around to get back on a Saturday (99 times out of 100 I do) to meet a ridiculous set work load I will get it every week, if it costs them an extra night out and running back in money on a Sun am at premium rate…I don’t.
Cheers doze.
