Last Easter, went from London to a village in South Wales, not far up from the bridge.
Took 9 hours
I used to have a car just like that.

To be fair it was the Friday of Easter, traffic was a bit on the busy side, and we did take a few detours for wine, beer, coffee, etc.
Still took us 6 hours on the way back. wine, beer, coffee etc

Doesn’t the M25 have a similar set up.
Clacket Lane is a lay-by service station (so, one each way). Cobham has a dedicated junction; the others (Thurrock and South Mimms) are off at junctions.

My guess would be that when they were built there wasn’t enough traffic to justify having a service area on each side of the motorway.Could be right there Harry I remember when it was 2 lanes all the way from Aust to Pont Abraham.
Actually didn’t the motorway end by Port Talbot ?
There was a gap in it there; there was another bit of the M4 that ran on to Pont Abraham where the motorway ends now and the bit of dual carriageway in between was the A48. I think they plugged the gap in the mid 90s.

Yeah thinking about it now there was a gap well remembered .
All the official paperwork is in two languages rather than ask your preference and save millions of pounds in waste paper.

Many years ago I had a fixed penalty ticked from South Wales. When I opened the envelope every thing was in Welsh. I thought " what the hell am I supposed to do with this?". Then, SWMBO pointed out the English translation behind.
Now, I can understand the Welsh preoccupation with promoting their language but, why send a form in Welsh to an English address?
